Legal Assistant

In this critical role, you will provide administrative and legal support to attorneys, helping manage case preparation, organization, and day-to-day operations for civil litigation matters. Key Responsibilities: Case Management Support: Assist attorneys with drafting, proofreading, and filing legal documents, including pleadings, motions, subpoenas, and discovery requests/responses. Maintain and organize case files, including both physical files and electronic records, ensuring compliance with court and firm protocols. Track important deadlines and manage court calendars to ensure timely submission of filings and coordination of appearances. Client and Attorney Support: Communicate with clients, courts, opposing counsel, and other parties on behalf of attorneys, ensuring professionalism and confidentiality. Help prepare attorneys for depositions, hearings, mediations, and trials by organizing case materials and assembling exhibits or evidence. Summarize depositions, trial transcripts, and other legal content as needed. Administrative Duties: Schedule and coordinate meetings, depositions, mediations, and court appearances. Manage attorney billing by entering time, running reports, and preparing invoices as needed. Handle correspondence, mailings, and other administrative tasks to support the civil litigation team. Legal Research and Analysis: Conduct basic legal research using Westlaw, LexisNexis, or other legal research tools. Assist attorneys with analyzing case law, statutes, and legal precedents related to ongoing litigation. Requirements: Qualifications: Associate's degree in Paralegal Studies, Legal Studies, or a related field preferred; equivalent experience considered. A minimum of 2-3 years of experience as a legal assistant, with a focus on civil litigation highly preferred. Strong understanding of civil litigation processes and court rules, particularly filing procedures at the federal and state levels. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook) and legal case management software (e.g., Clio, MyCase, or equivalent). Familiarity with electronic filing systems such as PACER or local court e-filing systems. Exceptional organizational, time management, and multitasking skills. Superior verbal and written communication abilities. Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines while maintaining accuracy and professionalism.
