Role Description
The Director of Business Development will be responsible for identifying and developing new business opportunities, creating and implementing business plans, generating leads, negotiating contracts, and managing key accounts. The ideal candidate will work closely with internal teams to align strategies and ensure the successful execution of business development initiatives.
What We Are Searching For
We are seeking a Business Development Director (BDD) to spearhead client acquisition efforts and help us build relationships with key decision-makers in biotech and pharmaceutical operations, facilities, and executive leadership. This role offers significant autonomy, growth potential, and performance-based compensation based on the volume of sales generated. The BDD will report directly to the Chief Operating Officer.
What You’ll Do
As our first dedicated business development hire, you will play a pivotal role in expanding our commercial footprint. You’ll work closely with the founding team to generate new opportunities, shape our go-to-market messaging, and advance prospects through the sales pipeline.
This is a commission-only position , ideal for candidates with existing industry networks or strong consultative sales experience within the life sciences or related technical services sectors.
Key Responsibilities
Comprehensively, the role of the BDD will be to generate facility (laboratory) project sales through forward-facing customer interaction and lead fulfillment, which includes the following responsibilities:
Identify, engage, and develop relationships with target biotech, pharma, and CDMO companies
Conduct discovery calls to assess client needs and determine fit
Collaborate with founders to develop tailored scopes of work and client proposals
Support the creation and refinement of sales collateral, including pitch decks and service menus
Maintain an organized lead tracking system (Google Sheets or CRM)
Participate in weekly strategy and pipeline check-ins with the leadership team
Qualifications
Proven experience in New Business Development and Lead Generation
Skills in Business Planning and Account Management
Strong abilities in Contract Negotiation
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Bachelor’s degree in Business, Marketing, Engineering or related field
Experience in the biotech, pharma, or related industries is a plus
Compensation Structure
15% commission on collected revenuefor all deals you originate
Commission applies to initial contracts and follow-on engagements for 12 months post-close
No base salary; this is a 100% commission-based role to start
Substantial earning potential on high-value infrastructure projects — salary range in ideal conditions: $150,000 - $450,000+
Ideal Candidate Profile
Preferably holding a B.S. degree in chemical, bio, mechanical, controls, or a related engineering discipline; M.B.A. degree is a plus
Minimum 3+ years of experience in business development, sales, or client services within life sciences, laboratory infrastructure, cleanroom solutions, or related capital project environments
Preferably demonstrated track-record of biotech- and pharma-related industry sales, with an established network of prospective biotech and pharma clients who are seeking expansion
Familiarity with how life science companies procure facility services or technical consulting
Confident communicating with Directors of Operations, Facilities Managers, CTOs, or startup executives
Exceptional interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills
Self-directed, highly organized, and comfortable operating without a base salary
Motivated by clear commission upside and the opportunity to grow into a senior commercial role
