Position Summary

The Marketing & Communications Director serves as a member of the senior leadership team, providing strategic vision and executive oversight for brand, marketing, and communications initiatives. This role directs efforts to promote and enhance Child Advocates’ mission, strengthen community visibility, provides the collateral for the organization’s fundraising efforts, supports volunteer recruitment, and program impact. The Director ensures all communications are aligned, measurable, and effective in advancing the agency’s strategic plan.

Leadership and Strategic Experience

Seven plus years of progressive leadership experience in marketing, communications, or a related field. Proven success directing integrated marketing and communications strategies that deliver measurable results. Demonstrated experience overseeing cross-functional teams, agency partnerships, and high-profile projects. Track record of aligning marketing and communications with fundraising, advocacy, and program objectives.

Education



Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, advertising, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Communication and Storytelling



Executive-level communication skills, including public speaking, brand storytelling, and high-stakes messaging.

Technical and Analytical Skills

Strong working knowledge of SEO, analytics, and digital marketing strategy, with ability to interpret data for strategic decision-making. Oversight-level proficiency with CRM systems, email marketing platforms, and creative tools (Blackbaud Luminate Online and Adobe Creative Suite preferred).

Preferred

Senior marketing leadership experience in a nonprofit or mission-driven environment. Background in volunteer recruitment strategy and community engagement.

Essential Job Functions

Strategic Planning and Oversight

Oversee all organizational marketing efforts, including strategic planning, budgeting, advertising, public relations, website management, publication development, collateral production, and overall brand awareness. Create and manage the annual marketing department budget. Create and manage an annual, comprehensive Marketing & Communications plan, ensuring coordination with all departments to meet communication needs.

Campaign Development and Execution

Develop and direct comprehensive, multi-channel marketing campaigns (email, web, social media, advertising, direct mail, radio, television, and other media) to advance mission awareness, community engagement, and revenue generation. Coordinate the planning and creation of content marketing initiatives that drive traffic, engagement, and leads while positively positioning the organization across the community. Direct marketing and communications campaigns that align with strategic goals and promote and enhance Child Advocates’ initiatives, departments, and brand.

Content and Publications

Collaborate with the team to develop and execute key communications, including newsletters, event invitations/reminders, the annual report, and other organizational publications. Lead development of executive communications, including speeches, remarks, letters, and presentations for the CEO, Board Chair, and other leaders.

Performance Tracking & Collaboration

Implement and oversee systems to track performance metrics for all promotions and campaigns. Partner with internal teams, contractors, and vendors (e.g., designers, digital specialists) to ensure all content meets organizational standards and brand guidelines.

VOLUNTEER RECRUITMENT

Direct the development and execution of an annual volunteer recruitment strategy aligned with organizational and grant goals. Identify and evaluate new recruitment channels and opportunities for growth. Collaborate with the Program team to create compelling recruitment messaging and materials. Monitor and analyze conversion rates at each stage of the recruitment pipeline; implement strategic improvements. Oversee recruitment-related digital engagement, including website landing pages, social media campaigns, and email outreach. Ensure volunteer demographics and sourcing meet organizational objectives and grant requirements.

ADVERTISING

Lead media relationships and oversee planning, purchasing, and placement of all paid advertising across platforms. Maintain and present source report data; adjust strategy and placements as needed to sustain performance. Ensure all advertising aligns with brand, messaging, accessibility, and cultural relevance standards. Develop and approve advertising in collaboration with internal staff, contractors, or vendors. Conduct or oversee A/B testing and performance analysis to optimize campaigns. Monitor and report on ROI for all advertising efforts; recommend future investments. Explore and test innovative advertising formats and platforms (e.g., podcasts, partnerships, short-form video) to expand reach and engagement.

PUBLIC RELATIONS

Serve as the organization’s chief media spokesperson and primary liaison with press and broadcast outlets; stay informed on issues affecting abused children and represent Child Advocates’ position effectively. Maintain and strengthen relationships with key media contacts; proactively identify and pitch story and event opportunities across radio, print, online, and broadcast platforms. Maintain and regularly update the Crisis Communication Plan; lead response efforts when activated Promote special events through writing, pitching, producing, and distributing media listings; conduct interviews; and provide photography or other media support as needed.

COLLATERAL DEVELOPMENT AND DESIGN

Oversee the concept, design, and production of organizational collateral materials to support general operations, recruitment, training, special events, and special projects. Ensure all materials maintain brand integrity, accessibility, and cultural relevance, and promote and enhance mission impact. Direct work with internal staff, contractors, or vendors from initial concept through final product; complete hands-on design or production tasks when needed.

TEAM LEADERSHIP

Serve as an active member of the Child Advocates leadership team, representing the Marketing function in organizational planning and decision-making. Lead recruitment, onboarding, and training for marketing team members. Foster a collaborative, mission-driven team culture that supports achievement of departmental and organizational goals. Guide and support team members in performance improvement, growth, and long-term career development, through ongoing performance management, coaching, feedback, and completion of annual and interim performance reviews. Establish and monitor performance metrics that drive team success. Set and communicate priorities, delegating effectively and responsibly while ensuring accountability.

Other Job Functions

Special Projects & Content - Manage and oversee the procurement and production of non-recurring organizational communication tools (e.g., orientation videos, donor-driven videos, and special content), in collaboration with the Development Team. Contractor and Intern Oversight - Manage and oversee marketing department contractors and interns, ensuring quality, alignment with brand standards, and project success.

WORK CHARACTERISTICS

Physical Requirements

Ability to lift, load, and take down special event materials as needed. Ability to set up and break down meetings or presentations.

Additional Requirements

Valid Texas driver’s license, current auto insurance, and reliable vehicle. Successful completion of all required background screenings.

Work Conditions

Ability to work offsite for events, meetings, and community engagements. Availability to work evenings and weekends as required to support organizational priorities.
