IP Biotechnology Patent Agent

Job Overview : A law firm is seeking an experienced Patent Agent to join its Intellectual Property Department’s Chemical, Biotechnology, and Pharmaceutical Practice Group. The ideal candidate will have at least 3 years of experience in patent counseling, including preparation and prosecution of domestic and international patent applications, specifically in biotechnology. Location : Washington DC Duties : Draft and prosecute domestic and international patent applications in biotechnology and related fields. Prepare and provide patent opinions in biotechnology or similar technologies. Conduct legal research and offer strategic guidance on patent-related matters. Work collaboratively with teams to create and implement intellectual property strategies. Communicate technical and legal matters effectively to clients. Requirements : At least 3 years of experience in patent counseling, preparation, and prosecution. Strong legal writing and research skills. Excellent oral and written communication abilities. Experience in biotechnology, molecular biology, biochemistry, or related fields. Experience in preparing patent opinions is a plus. Must be registered to practice before the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO). Education : PhD in biological sciences (e.g., Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Genetics), Chemistry, or a related field. Certifications : Must be registered to practice before the USPTO. Skills : Strong technical expertise in biotechnology and related areas. Excellent legal writing, research, and communication skills. Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
