Agawam, MA ________________________________________ Job Summary The IT Systems Administrator is responsible for ensuring the reliability, security, and performance of the municipalitys IT infrastructure. This role plays a key part in supporting daily operations across departments by maintaining critical systems, safeguarding sensitive data, and delivering secure, high-availability technology services to support the needs of both staff and the public. This role is responsible for the technical management, upgrade planning, and project coordination for essential municipal applications, including Tyler ERP (MUNIS), OpenGov E-Permitting, and Laserfiche. The IT Systems Administrator also oversees core infrastructure components such as Microsoft Active Directory, Windows Server, cloud services, and network security tools. In addition, this role supports helpdesk operations, disaster recovery planning, and automation through scripting. Working closely with the IT Director, this position contributes to strategic planning, resource management, and the continuous improvement of IT services aligned with organizational goals and public sector standards. ________________________________________ Key Responsibilities Manage and maintain core IT systems including servers, applications, workstations, and cloud services. Oversee the planning, coordination, and execution of system upgrades and implementations for Tyler ERP (MUNIS), Laserfiche, and OpenGov platforms. Act as the primary technical liaison with vendors and internal departments for municipal application projects. Oversee desktop and helpdesk support functions to ensure timely resolution of end-user issues. Develop and maintain comprehensive documentation for systems, applications, configurations, and processes. Perform regular diagnostic testing, monitor system performance, and troubleshoot hardware/software issues. Administer and monitor backup and disaster recovery systems, ensuring data integrity and business continuity. Implement and enforce IT security policies to maintain compliance with municipal and regulatory standards. Use PowerShell and other tools to automate system monitoring, reporting, and administrative tasks. Support the IT Director in capital planning, vendor management, and technology roadmap development. ________________________________________ Technical Responsibilities Backup & Recovery: Manage Veeam backup systems and ensure reliable disaster recovery processes. Application Management: Oversee, support, and upgrade MUNIS (ERP), Laserfiche (document imaging), OpenGov (permitting), and VOIP systems. Project Management: Lead planning, testing, and deployment of municipal software upgrades and implementations. Storage & Network: Configure and manage Pure Storage systems, RAID, iSCSI, LUNs; support Ubiquiti wireless access and certificate servers. Scripting & Automation: Develop PowerShell scripts for task automation, diagnostics, and system monitoring. User & Access Management: Administer user accounts, group policies, and enforce least-privilege access standards. Compliance & Monitoring: Ensure systems meet security and performance requirements; monitor for irregularities or misuse. ________________________________________ Minimum Qualifications Education: Bachelors degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or related field (or equivalent work experience). Experience: 3 to 5 years of progressively responsible experience in IT system administration and project management, preferably in a local government setting. Certifications: ________________________________________ Soft Skills & Attributes Strong verbal and written communication skills for interaction with staff, vendors, and department leaders. Ability to manage multiple projects with competing deadlines in a municipal environment. Collaborative and service-oriented mindset with a focus on supporting public-facing departments. Problem-solving ability and attention to detail. Provide technical training and support for town staff on systems and applications. Participate in emergency IT response and after-hours support when necessary.
