Vice President, Credit and Underwriting

VP/Sr. VP, Credit and Underwriting- Real Estate Lending

Location: Irvine, CA

Compensation: $175,000 – $225,000 + discretionary bonus + outstanding benefits

We’re hiring a senior-level credit leader to manage and oversee underwriting functions for a growing real estate finance firm. This individual will be directly involved in evaluating and structuring loans tied to residential investment properties, including short-term bridge financing, long-term rentals, and new construction.

What You’ll Do:

• Lead the credit evaluation process across multiple loan products, ensuring thorough analysis and well-supported decisions.
• Work closely with internal teams to assess deals, weigh risks, and determine loan viability.
• Present deals and credit recommendations to executive leadership and credit committees.
• Review borrower profiles, collateral values, and market data to guide underwriting decisions.
• Stay ahead of market shifts and regulatory updates to help refine internal credit standards.
• Partner with originations, legal, and asset management teams to ensure sound deal structuring.
• Provide coaching and oversight to underwriting staff, helping them develop sound credit judgment.

What You Bring:

• Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Business, or similar. Advanced degree is a plus.
• A strong background in real estate credit and underwriting — ideally 7+ years in the space.
• Excellent leadership overseeing team, mentoring, developing, and coaching.
• Familiarity with loans for fix-and-flip projects, rentals, and construction.
• Ability to evaluate complex financial scenarios with precision and clarity.
• Solid understanding of credit policy, loan compliance, and risk controls.
• Comfortable operating in a fast-paced, high-volume lending environment.
• Strong communicator with an ability to present and defend credit decisions to stakeholders.
