Job Title: Registered Nurse (RN) Profession: Nursing Specialty: Labor and Delivery (L&D) Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Rotating (Day/Night) Hours per Shift: 12 hours Experience: Minimum 3 years of experience in LDRP License: Required Certifications: BLS, NRP, AWHONN Intermediate (advanced preferred), STABLE Must-Have: Candidates must have 3 years of experience in LDRP. Description: Department includes Labor and Delivery and Postpartum care. There are 7 L&D beds, 12 Postpartum beds, and 8 Surgical beds. The unit has a dedicated C-Section OR and additional GYN surgical ORs. There are 3 triage beds with an average of 17 patients per month. The unit experiences approximately 643 births annually. The staffing ratios follow AWHONN guidelines: L&D 1:1-2, Postpartum 1:2-3 for couplets and 1:3-4 for surgical/medical cases. Common patient diagnoses include obstetric conditions, antepartum care, and postpartum management. Candidates should be comfortable caring for higher-risk patients. Responsibilities include managing postpartum vaginal and C-section deliveries, hysterectomies, bladder repairs, and mastectomies. Candidates must be able to titrate drips, including Pitocin, magnesium, and occasional insulin. Commonly administered medications include Procardia, Labetalol, TXA, Methergine, Hemabate, Cytotec, and Cervidil. There is a Charge Nurse on each shift who also takes patient assignments. There is an OB scrub tech scheduled on weekdays along with a unit clerk and occasional nursing students. RNs are expected to scrub when needed. OB and Neonatology services are available on-call 24/7. Anesthesia services are also available 24/7. The unit has remote telemetry capability; RNs are required to read their own strips when applicable. The electronic fetal monitoring system includes various GE/Corometrics models. Scheduling is done 6 weeks in advance, taking into account staff preferences. Weekend requirements are every third weekend, and holiday coverage is as needed. There may be floating requirements to other departments as necessary. Surgical scrubs are provided for staff. High patient satisfaction has been reported in the department. Candidates should be aware of the radius rule regarding prior employment with specific health systems. Requests for time off need to be provided upfront, with limited additional requests accepted. The charting system in use is EPIC. A BSN is not required for this position.
