Medical Laboratory Technician (Grossing Technician)
The Department of Pathology is seeking a Medical Laboratory Technician (Grossing Technician) to, under general supervision, perform a variety of laboratory procedures that may involve numerous detailed steps and techniques that require the use of professional judgment, which are used to provide information in the diagnosis, prevention or treatment of disease. This position is 100%-time, 1st shift: 0830-1730, Monday-Friday. Duties to include: Completes gross description and dissection of specific, non-complex surgical specimens, specified in accordance to CLIA '88 Federal regulations and as directed by the Surgical Pathology Medical Director. Performs histological preparation of tissue including, but not limited to, processor loading and embedding. Uses laboratory information system for data entry, retrieval and inquiry, including the accessioning of cases. Participates in the Quality Management program activities within Anatomic Pathology. Complies with applicable regulatory and accreditation requirements of the laboratory section. Required Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in a chemical, biological, clinical laboratory science, or medical technology program from an accredited institution, or Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) or eligible from American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) or National Credentialing Agency (NCA), or Successfully completed an official US military medical laboratory procedures training course of at least 50 weeks duration and has held the military enlisted occupational specialty of Medical Laboratory Specialist (Laboratory Technician). Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required. Desired Qualifications: Certification from American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) or National Credentialing Agency (NCA) as a Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) is highly desirable. Experience with Anatomic Pathology/Surgical Pathology functions is desirable, including: grossing tissue, embedding tissue and microtomy.
