Summary: As a Refrigeration Systems Controls Engineer you will be responsible for leading development projects for refrigeration sub-systems to expand the product portfolio, improve operation, or improve reliability. In this role you will develop or revise controls functional specs with the intent of making changes or developing new products. Logic is developed on programmable logic controllers (PLCs) using function block logic (graphical programming) and other programming languages. Primarily, you will be writing logic for Carel, but may include other controls manufacturers. This role requires communicating with the refrigeration and electrical engineering development teams to design robust control systems that have precise control of multiple interacting modulating systems. These systems include refrigerant pressure transducers to control variable speed compressors, as well as variable speed condenser fan control, modulating hot gas reheat, and other sub-systems relating to refrigeration. Develop some working knowledge of advanced HVAC systems, such as psychrometrics, DX refrigeration systems, energy recovery, fans, etc. Develop controls function specifications and develop new logic for refrigeration control systems. Including, but not limited to, variable speed compressors, electronic expansion valves, heat pump defrost sequencing, modulating condenser fan control, and evaporator defrost control. Work with electrical engineers to update wiring schematics and harnesses to fit new control systems. Work with the instrumentation team to determine the correct sensors, hardware, and proper documentation for refrigeration designs. Collaborate with the regulatory and compliance team to develop technologies that maximize energy efficiencies based on relevant codes. Work with the R&D, lab engineering, and controls validation groups to develop validation test plans for reliability and operation, analyze results, and optimize control schemes for best results. Develop control logic in Carel controllers to control refrigeration systems. Qualifications/Skills:
Requirements: Must be able to meet safety/physical requirements. Some experience working in HVAC or with refrigeration systems – could be design, maintenance, or service work. Some experience working with controls, electrical, industrial, or related field. Experience could be in an engineering lab, as a field technician, or strong hobby work. Education in related field or 5+ years working in the field. Education could be a degree or certification in HVAC, engineering, PLC’s, automation, or similar. Experience could be industrial maintenance, electrician, controls, building automation, or HVAC. Ability to type at least 20 words per minute. Experience using computers and Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Outlook, Word, etc.). Prefer: EPA 608 certification Experience working with hand tools and other hands on type of work. Experience programming or working with Carel controllers. Safety/Physical requirements:
Ability to lift 50 lbs. Requires bending, stooping, and standing. Must be able to stand from six (6) to eight (8) hours per day. Follow established safety policies including, but not limited to, mobile equipment, PPE, emergency response, HAZCOM, first-aid response, etc. Other Duties:
