Job Summary
The System Administrator is responsible for managing and maintaining the organization's IT infrastructure, with a focus on Office 365, Exchange Online, virtualized server environments, system imaging, backups, and system upgrades. This role ensures the reliability, security, and efficiency of all systems and contributes to the planning and implementation of IT solutions that support the organization's goals.
Essential Functions
Administer, support, and optimize Office 365 and Exchange Online environments, including user provisioning, email flow, retention policies, and security configurations. Manage physical and virtual servers, including installation, configuration, patching, monitoring, and performance tuning. Oversee and maintain system imaging processes, including the creation, updating, and deployment of standard desktop and laptop images. Manage and monitor backup systems, ensuring regular, reliable backups and the ability to restore systems and data as needed. Maintain and upgrade core infrastructure systems, applying security updates and ensuring compliance with organizational policies. Manage the virtual environment (e.g., VMware, Hyper-V), including host maintenance, storage management, and virtual machine provisioning. Monitor system health and performance, ensuring high levels of availability and security. Troubleshoot and resolve hardware, software, and network issues in collaboration with other IT staff. Document systems, processes, and configurations; maintain accurate inventories and change logs. Participate in disaster recovery planning and execution. Stay informed on new technologies and recommend improvements to infrastructure and operations. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Strong knowledge of Windows Server OS, Office 365 Administration Center, and Exchange Online PowerShell. Experience with virtualization platforms (e.g., VMware, Hyper-V). Proficiency in system imaging and deployment tools. Proficiency in backup software (e.g., Veeam). Working knowledge of networking concepts, firewalls, and DNS/DHCP Excellent communication and documentation abilities. Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment. Ability to use good judgment and manage stress appropriately, demonstrate effective critical thinking skills Requirements
Qualifications
Education/Licensure/Certification:
Bachelor's degree in computer science, Information Technology, or a related field or an equivalent combination of education and relevant professional experience. Must maintain a valid Oregon driver's license or obtain one upon hire, and qualify for BestCare's vehicle insurance Experience:
3+ years of experience as a system administrator or in a comparable IT infrastructure role. Experience with Office 365, Exchange Online, and Active Directory administration. Experience with system imaging tools (e.g., MDT, SCCM, Clonezilla, or similar). Familiarity with backup and disaster recovery tools
