Job Description At Relativity Space, we're building rockets to serve today's needs and tomorrow's breakthroughs. Our Terran R vehicle will deliver customer payloads to orbit, meeting the growing demand for launch capacity. Achieving commercial success with Terran R will unlock new opportunities to advance science, exploration, and innovation, pioneering progress that reaches beyond the known. Joining Relativity means becoming part of a company where autonomy, ownership, and impact exist at every level. Here, you're not just executing tasks; you're solving unprecedented problems, helping develop a rocket, a factory, and a business from the ground up. Whether you're in propulsion, manufacturing, software, avionics, or a corporate function, you'll collaborate across teams, shape decisions, and see your work come to life rapidly. Relativity is a place where creativity and technical rigor go hand in hand, and your voice will help shape our shared story. Now is a unique moment to leave your mark on the product, the process, and the culture, with Terran R gaining momentum. The most meaningful work of your career awaits. Join us. About the Team: The Systems Engineering team ensures that Terran R functions as a cohesive, high-performing, and scalable system. One team focuses on building tools and processes to manage requirements, track decisions, and mitigate risks, enabling faster, more informed development. Engineers work across domains to understand complex problems, identify solutions, and implement them with deep technical expertise. The other team focuses on the vehicle itself, working across teams to ensure all subsystems function together as intended, reducing technical risks, and guiding decisions throughout the vehicle's lifecycle. Engineers are empowered to lead significant efforts, from test campaigns to launch operations, and are trusted to improve systems across fluids, structures, avionics, and more. Regardless of the team, you'll be part of a high-visibility, impactful department at a pivotal moment, where decisions today will influence both the first launch and the company's long-term trajectory. About the Role: As a Staff Systems Engineer, you will collaborate across the organization to develop engineering processes and tools supporting the design, development, certification, and flight of the Terran R launch system. Projects include: Developing the Systems Engineering tools and methodology roadmap to align the needs of various disciplines from development to launch. Building, improving, or streamlining engineering processes to foster an efficient, product-focused culture. Prototyping, implementing, and deploying processes, tools, and automation to enhance design and testing collaboration. Managing vehicle design and development processes from start to finish, setting expectations, tracking progress, and ensuring effectiveness. Providing engineering expertise to solve technical challenges at all levels. This role requires autonomous performance of responsibilities with minimal oversight. Success in this role depends on being self-motivated, adaptable, and capable of contributing to a fast-paced, integrated vehicle program. You should be able to resolve ambiguity and drive projects to completion. Preferred experience includes Systems Engineering, Verification and Validation (V&V), Requirement Management, Vehicle Configuration Management, and Launch Vehicle certification, with a proven track record of successful project completion in collaborative environments. Weekly activities include developing processes and tools, supporting design teams, and collaborating with IT and DevOps. Strong organizational skills are essential for managing documentation, actions, recommendations, and decisions. About You: Undergraduate degree in engineering or related field and 10+ years of relevant experience. Experience in cross-functional engineering and integration of complex systems. Proven ability to solve difficult problems with multiple stakeholders in a fast-paced environment. Track record of contributing to project completion. Experience with workflows and automation in Jira or similar tools. Proficiency in scripting languages like Python. Expertise in modern systems engineering practices and tools. Strong written and oral communication skills. Nice to haves: Graduate degree (MS/PhD) in engineering or related field with 10+ years of experience. Hands-on experience with design, integration, testing, and operation of complex systems. History of taking complex products from concept to production. Strong desire to learn and solve ambiguous challenges. Experience with Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE). Relativity Space values transparency and fairness in compensation. Salary will be based on experience and qualifications. Our total rewards include competitive salary and equity, generous PTO, parental leave, an annual learning stipend, and more.
