The primary mission of Tax is to ensure the firms compliance with the tax laws of those countries (and local jurisdictions) in which the firm conducts business and to assist businesses in managing tax risk.
Key Tax Functions
- Representing the firm in audits of the firms state and local tax (SALT) filings.
- Providing information to state and local tax auditors in connection with ongoing audits
- Quantifying tax exposures resulting from state and local audits for inclusion in the firms financial statements
-Keeping management apprised of audit developments including tax exposures
To work for a leading financial services organizations in-house tax department in the State and Local Tax Audit group.
RESPONSIBILITES:
- Interact with SALT auditors in supporting and defending tax returns filed by GS SALT tax team.
- Interact with co-workers in gathering information to support and defend tax return positions.
- Identify tax savings opportunities and/or areas of tax exposure and collaborate on these with SALT team.
- Track ongoing audits, including deadlines and exposures.
- Prepare state and local quarterly calculations in accordance with ASC 740
- Preparation of deliverables within the total tax life cycle (income tax provision, tax return compliance and return to provision analysis)
- Preparation, reconciliation and tracking of multistate UTP balances
- Work with the team to report quarterly effective tax rates.
- Keep management apprised of audit developments and conclusions.
- Stay abreast of tax law changes impacting SALT filings.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- 3-5 years of relevant State and Local Tax experience
- Excellent analytical skills and focused attention to detail
- Proficient with MS Excel and Word; comfortable with learning new tax software applications (One Source and Corptax)
- Highly effective communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to handle multiple tasks and prioritize appropriately
- Enjoys working in a team-oriented atmosphere
- Degree in Accounting or other related fields required
- Advanced degree in Accounting or Tax preferred, but not required.
- CPA preferred, but not required
