Overview The Job in a Nutshell:
The Assistant Store Manager is the second in command of the store, responsible for its successful operation and profitability. This includes training, directing, and monitoring all department staff.

Responsibilities
Greet and service customers per company standards of World Class customer service.
Provide professional leadership for staff.
Handle customer complaints appropriately and according to company policy.
Maintain an inviting and shoppable store environment.
Ensure products customers want are in stock.
Handle special orders per company policy.
Answer phones per standards; spend at least 75% of time assisting customers, directing staff, and attending to departments.
Train staff on exemplary customer service and hold them accountable.
Ensure staff compliance with applicable food safety certifications and registrations.
Meet and/or exceed expectations in sales, sales per labor hour, average ticket, customer count, COGS for produce, and EBITDA.
Order products from correct vendors to maintain margins.
Monitor in-stock conditions and product mix, including analysis and introduction of new products.
Manage perishables, markdowns, and ensure proper rotation and stocking.
Assist in hiring, training, and managing store personnel.
Train staff, assign tasks, and ensure completion.
Maintain accurate schedules and collaborate with department managers for staffing needs.
Cross-train staff across departments to ensure comprehensive customer support.
Ensure staff have adequate product knowledge and training resources.
Assist in performance evaluations and wage adjustments.
Participate in hiring processes.
Address performance or disciplinary issues promptly with HR.
Maintain clear communication, including staff meetings and posting updates.
Ensure safety guidelines are followed.
Complete all operational paperwork and reports timely.
Respond to departmental calls and assist with coverage as needed.
Manage disruptions such as loiterers, solicitations, weather emergencies, and bathroom misuse.
Work a flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends, averaging 45 hours/week.
Support company decisions, follow communications, and remain adaptable to changing demands.
Exemplify leadership and professional demeanor at all times.
All employees are expected to be "hands on" and contribute to company success beyond their specific duties.
Qualifications
High school diploma or GED; 1-2 years management experience in grocery/retail, natural foods a plus.
Ability to manage changing priorities.
Pass applicable food safety training and obtain certifications as required.
Must obtain forklift certification.
Maintain up-to-date food safety certifications.
Highly organized with a sense of urgency.
Excellent customer service skills.
Ability to follow directions and complete tasks.
Cashier trained.
Proficient in MS Word, Excel, Outlook.
