The Job in a Nutshell: The Assistant Store Manager is the second-in-command of the store, responsible for ensuring its successful operation and profitability. This includes training, directing, and monitoring all department staff. Applications are accepted until 08/29/2025, with potential updates if the hiring timeline extends. Responsibilities
Main Responsibilities: Greet and serve customers according to company standards of World Class customer service. Provide professional leadership as a manager. Handle customer complaints appropriately and per company policy. Maintain an inviting and shoppable store environment. Ensure products desired by customers are in stock. Handle special orders per company policy. Answer phones per standards and spend at least 75% of time assisting customers, directing staff, and attending to all departments. Train staff to deliver exemplary customer service and hold them accountable. Ensure staff compliance with applicable food safety certifications and registrations. Meet and exceed expectations in sales, sales per labor hour, average ticket, customer count, COGS for produce, and EBITDA. Order products from correct vendors to maintain margins and receive discounts. Maintain in-stock conditions and monitor product mix, including analyzing departments to keep top sellers and introduce new products. Rotate and stock perishables per standards and manage markdowns accordingly. Assist in hiring, training, and managing store personnel, including scheduling and performance evaluations. Partner with department managers for staffing and cross-training. Ensure staff have adequate product knowledge and can answer customer questions. Address performance and disciplinary issues promptly with HR support. Maintain clear communication with staff, conduct monthly meetings, and post company information. Follow safety guidelines at all times. Complete all operational responsibilities, reports, and paperwork timely. Respond to departmental calls and assist with coverage as needed. Manage business disruptions and work a flexible schedule including evenings and weekends, approximately 45 hours per week. Lead by example, setting a high standard of excellence and professionalism. All employees are expected to be hands-on and contribute to the company's success. Qualifications
Recipe for Success: High school diploma or GED required; 1-2 years management experience in grocery or related retail, natural foods experience a plus. Ability to manage changing priorities. Pass applicable food safety training and obtain necessary certifications. Must obtain forklift certification. Maintain certifications through continuing education and stay registered with relevant agencies. Highly organized with a sense of urgency. Excellent customer service skills. Ability to follow directions and complete tasks. Cashier trained. Proficient in MS Word, Excel, and Outlook. This description is not a contract and may change.
