Overview:

The Carpenter-Painter is responsible for performing skilled work in the construction, maintenance, and repair of hospital facilities, furnishings, and equipment. This includes both carpentry and painting tasks to ensure a safe, functional, and visually appealing environment that supports patient care and hospital operations.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Carpentry Responsibilities:

• Construct, install, and repair woodwork, cabinetry, doors, windows, partitions, and other structural elements.

• Perform finish carpentry including molding, trim, and hardware installation.

• Read and interpret blueprints, sketches, and work orders.

• Operate hand and power tools safely and effectively.

• Perform preventive maintenance and emergency repairs on hospital infrastructure.

Painting Responsibilities:

• Prepare surfaces for painting by cleaning, sanding, patching, and priming.

• Apply paint, stain, varnish, and other finishes to interior and exterior surfaces.

• Mix and match paint colors and finishes as needed.

• Maintain painting tools and equipment in good working condition.

• Ensure proper ventilation and safety procedures during painting operations.

General Responsibilities:

• Maintain accurate records of work performed, materials used, and time spent.

• Collaborate with other trades and departments to complete projects efficiently.

• Follow infection control protocols and safety regulations.

• Respond promptly to maintenance requests and work orders.

• Maintain a clean and organized work area.

Job Requirements:

Education and Experience:

• High school diploma or equivalent required.

• Minimum of 3 years of experience in carpentry and painting, preferably in a healthcare or institutional setting.

Skills and Abilities:

• Proficiency in using carpentry and painting tools and equipment.

• Ability to read and interpret technical documents and blueprints.

• Strong attention to detail and craftsmanship.

• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

• Good communication and organizational skills.

Physical Requirements:

• Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs.

• Ability to stand, bend, kneel, and climb ladders for extended periods.

• Manual dexterity and visual acuity for detailed work.

Work Environment:

• Work is performed in various areas of the hospital including patient care areas, administrative offices, and exterior grounds.

• Exposure to noise, dust, fumes, and chemicals associated with carpentry and painting.

• Use of personal protective equipment (PPE) is required.
