PURPOSE OF POSITION:
The Grain Merchandising Support Specialist supports the grain merchandising team through a combination of contract administration, position tracking, reporting, accounting, and customer service. This role plays a critical part in ensuring accurate data flow, operational efficiency, and strong grower relationships.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Grain Contracts & Cash Position
Enter grain purchase and sales contracts into the ERP system
Coordinate with Accounting to input futures trades and reconcile daily grain position
Monitor and communicate daily cash position updates to the merchandising team
Distribute and track grower contracts, ensuring signature compliance within 30 days
Reporting & Data Management
Generate and distribute weekly reports, including new purchase and sales contracts
Provide daily and weekly operational reports such as truck volume, Daily Position Reports (DPR), and Long/Short summaries
Accounting Support
Assist with grain transaction processing: ticket entry, invoicing, settlements, and payments
Print and distribute grain reports and customer checks
Reconcile invoiced vs. paid amounts and support billing for custom hauled bushels
Collaborate with operations to support a growing custom hauling fleet
Customer & Merchandising Support
Answer incoming grain-related calls and provide back-up grain purchasing when the merchandising team is unavailable
Ensure accurate communication with merchandisers for timely hedging decisions
Seasonal & Operational Support
Perform additional duties as needed, including support during busy spring and fall seasons at the Page location
QUALIFICATIONS:
The ideal candidate will possess the following:
Required:
High school diploma; associate's degree in related field preferred
Strong organizational skills with attention to accuracy and deadlines
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Ability to learn and navigate ERP/accounting systems (Ag-specific preferred)
Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook
Team-oriented and self-motivated with the ability to adapt to seasonal demands
Preferred:
Experience in agriculture, grain merchandising, or agribusiness accounting
Familiarity with grain markets, logistics, or commodity tracking systems
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Light sedentary office work
Frequently: vision and hearing abilities, sitting and repetitive wrist, hand, and/or finger movement
Sometimes: lifting, carrying up to 20-35 lbs (i.e. office supplies)
Rarely: extensive standing, walking, exposure to hazardous materials, weather conditions
