Weekend Custodial Student Lead
positions within Memorial Union Building Services. Custodial Leads play a key role in ensuring the cleanliness, safety, and readiness of MU facilities while guiding and supporting student custodial staff. Work hours include weekday evenings (Monday–Friday, 7:00 pm–11:00 pm) and weekend shifts (Saturday/Sunday, 9:00 am–4:30 pm and 4:00 pm–11:30 pm). Hours may vary depending on event needs and will be scheduled in coordination with staff. The Memorial Union Organization maintains the cleanliness of the following buildings: Memorial Union Student Experience Center Asian Pacific Cultural Center Beaver Beginnings Child Care Center Our Little Village Early Care and Education Centers Transferable Skill Development

Communication, Teamwork, & Leadership. Position Duties Lead and support Student Custodial Assistants in maintaining MU custodial coverage throughout the day by delegating tasks, modeling best practices, and encouraging team accountability. These tasks include, but are not limited to vacuuming, sweeping, mopping, wiping off tables, cleaning bathrooms, cleaning glass, dusting, and emptying trash/recycling/compost, and other duties as assigned. Collaborate with Memorial Union events staff to prepare meeting rooms, event spaces, and common areas, ensuring spaces are clean, welcoming, and accessible for diverse groups of guests. Actively participate in bi-weekly Custodial Leadership meetings and scheduled staff meetings, offering input, sharing feedback, and helping develop improvements to custodial processes. Communicate effectively with staff across shifts by completing daily reports and sharing project updates in both written and verbal formats to ensure consistency and clarity. Coordinate and facilitate custodial response to immediate situations (e.g., spills, broken glass, BBP clean-ups) by assigning roles and guiding the team to resolve issues efficiently and safely. Mentor and train peers on proper custodial techniques and safe use of equipment (e.g., hard floor scrubbers, carpet scrubbers, steam cleaners), reinforcing skill development and team confidence. Report problems, breakdowns, and disturbances to MU Building Services Leadership. Assist in opening or securing doors, windows, and other access points in all MU facilities. Must be academically enrolled in a high school, community college, or university and pursuing a program or course of study Must meet Academic Standing Requirements; students on academic suspension are not eligible for employment Must meet the applicable minimal enrollment standard
High School student: Regularly enrolled in a high school or participating in a home-schooling program Undergraduate and post-baccalaureate student: 6 credit hours per term Undergraduate international student: 12 credit hours per term* Graduate student officially admitted to Graduate School: 5 credit hours per term Graduate international student officially admitted to Graduate School: 9 credit hours per term*
*International students may be allowed to carry fewer hours than specified above and still be considered “full-time” by the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services ( USCIS ). A reduced course load is approved by the
Office of International Services
( OIS ), and must be provided to the Student Employment Center. Additional Required Qualifications Must be a Memorial Union Custodial Assistant. Availability to work at minimum one 7-hour shift on weekends. Demonstrate experience in arriving on time to scheduled shifts and being available for the full shift. Requires walking, standing, bending, stooping, and lifting up to 50 lbs for extended periods. Enrolled student in good standing with OSU and/or LBCC . Attend all staff meeting at the beginning of Fall Term. Preferred (Special) Qualifications
Has held a student employment position within the Memorial Union Organization. Has been in a leadership position before. Prior experience in a leadership or peer mentoring role on or off campus. Demonstrated ability to work independently with a high level of self-direction and initiative while leading a team. Working Conditions / Work Schedule
All job offers are contingent upon Human Resources final approval. The possibility of raises with training and skill development. This position typically has a consistent schedule each term. It is always built around your class schedule. Staff are expected to arrive for their scheduled shift on time and in uniform, or communicate with the Coordinator/Supervisor if they are not able to make it to their shift. Uniform requirement — close toed shoes and clean denim jeans or earth-tone slacks/pants (no holes, tears, leggings, shorts or athleticwear) are required and must be provided by employee.
