Position Summary

This recruitment will be used to fill part-time Student Food & Retail Service positions for the Child Development Center (CDC) at Oregon State University (OSU). The OSU Child Development Center is a campus-based laboratory preschool, student, education and research program for Human Development & Family Sciences. CDC preschool classes are offered on campus in Bates Hall.

Kitchen workers assist with preschool meal service, clean up and general kitchen duties. The schedule for kitchen workers follows the OSU academic year; our preschool and meal services operate five days per week. We begin the first week of fall term in September, observe all OSU breaks and holidays, and close on the last day of spring term in June (no summer hours).

Position Duties

Kitchen workers are scheduled for ~8 hours per week. Work is done in shifts from:10:00am- 12:00pm and 12:00pm -2:00pm in the Bates Hall kitchen.

50% - Portion out and deliver meals: set up classroom food carts with dishes and utensils, portion food into serving containers and deliver carts to classrooms.

30% - Clean up: compost of leftover food, wash and put away dishes and equipment, sanitize kitchen surfaces, empty garbage, compost and recyclables.

10% - As needed: record menu substitutions, ensure accurate delivery of special diets, kitchen organizing and cleaning.

10% - Receive food deliveries: check for accuracy, record food temperatures, store according to safe food handling guidelines.

Kitchen workers are expected to:

Follow written menu and special diet instructions, including foods to serve and allergens to avoid.

Make and record appropriate menu substitutions based on inaccurate deliveries, food shortages or unsafe temperatures.

Identify extra food that is safe to save and serve at a later time, and food needing to be discarded.

Follow guidelines for general safe food service and handling as well as the Child and Adult Care Food Program.

Must be academically enrolled in a high school, community college, or university and pursuing a program or course of study Must meet Academic Standing Requirements; students on academic suspension are not eligible for employment Must meet the applicable minimal enrollment standard

High School student: Regularly enrolled in a high school or participating in a home-schooling program Undergraduate and post-baccalaureate student: 6 credit hours per term Undergraduate international student: 12 credit hours per term* Graduate student officially admitted to Graduate School: 5 credit hours per term Graduate international student officially admitted to Graduate School: 9 credit hours per term*

*International students may be allowed to carry fewer hours than specified above and still be considered "full-time" by the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). A reduced course load is approved by the

Office of International Services

(OIS), and must be provided to the Student Employment Center.

Additional Required Qualifications

Able to communicate effectively speaking and in writing Able to follow directions regarding food service policies as well as to obtain a current Oregon Food Handler's Permit Able to lift items up to 40 pounds Preferred (Special) Qualifications

Strong preference for full-time or part-time university student in good standing. Previous experience in food service is preferred.
