Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit
Description of Work Under the supervision of the Coordinator/Counselor the of Student Support Services Program, the incumbent will be responsible for the following duties:
Assist SSS program participants with becoming familiar with university resources. Advise and refer participants to appropriate university resources, as the need arises. Encourage students to participate in planned social, cultural, leadership and academic activities and opportunities. Attend a weekly or bi-weekly meeting with the TRiO SSSP coordinator/staff. Record observations and submit monthly reports to the coordinator. Participate in Peer Mentor Training the week prior to the beginning of fall and spring semester and throughout the semester as needed. Function as a positive role model at all times, including at activities that occur on university. property and in the local community (this includes appropriate dress/attire). Assist mentees to develop positive academic, individual, social and life goals. Call and or meet with students a minimum of two times a week. Organize and or Implement study groups if needed.
Competencies/Knowledge Skills, and Abilities Required in this Position
Have excellent leadership and interpersonal skills. Be flexible, enthusiastic and friendly. A current and active SSS participant with a grade point average of 3.0 or higher Classified as a junior or senior at ECSU.
License or Certification Required by Statute or Regulation
