General Description The Orange County Health Department has an opening for Certified Medical Assistant.

An employee of this class is responsible for primarily responsible for supporting the nurses, physicians and Advanced Practice Providers in the medical clinic. This position performs a variety of tasks including but not limited to: patient intake and rooming, preparing examination rooms, assisting with laboratory duties, vaccine administration, maintaining clinic inventory, and ordering supplies.

Work is performed under the general supervision of the Public Health Supervisor I with some leeway to exercise independent judgment within the framework of applicable rules, regulations, policies and procedures in the performance of duties. Supervision is not a responsibility of this class. Does related work as required. Our goal is to be a diverse workforce that is representative, at all job levels, of the residents we serve. Graduation from High School or General Educational Development (GED) test equivalency

AND

vocational/technical training in an CAAHEP or ABHES-accredited Associate's degree, certificate or diploma medical assistant program AND one (1) year of medical office experience;

AND

Possession of the Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) credential through the American Association of Medical Assistants.

Bilingual in Spanish is strongly preferred.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

Possession of a valid, current unrestricted credential to practice as a Certified Medical Assistant in the State of North Carolina. The ability to readily obtain a Driver License valid in the State of North Carolina for the type of vehicle or equipment operated, AND agreement to respond to public health emergencies, including but not limited to staffing emergency shelters and responding to communicable disease outbreaks. May be required to possess additional certification(s) as deemed necessary by the Public Health Nursing Director or Unit Supervisor

All offers of employment are conditional upon successful clearance of a background check and pre-employment drug testing. Employment cannot commence until the employee has been cleared.

Orange County offers vision insurance for employee and dependent coverage with premiums rates between $5-$15 bi-weekly.

Life Insurance

Orange County pays for an employee life insurance policy based on employees' salary up to $50,000. Optional Life Insurance for employee and dependent life insurance policy.

Short Term Disability

Orange County pays for an employee short term disability policy that provides income protection up to 11 weeks with a weekly benefit of 70% of your weekly salary.

Optional Long Term Disability Coverage Policy Optional Insurance Policies: Pet Discount Program, Identity Theft Insurance, Legal Insurance 401(k) and 457 Deferred Compensation Plans

Orange County contributes $100 per pay period ($2600.00 annually) for supplemental retirement and you will have the option to select between which investment firm you would like to have these funds contributed to.
