General Description The Orange County Solid Waste Management Department has an opening for a Recycle Materials Handler.
The work involves the responsibility for sorting materials received from various collection routes into marketable categories.
Work is performed under the general supervision of the Solid Waste Programs Supervisor with some leeway to exercise independent judgment within the framework of applicable rules, regulations, policies and procedures in the performance of duties. Supervision is not a responsibility of this class. Does related work as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Graduation from High School or General Educational Development (GED) test equivalency
AND
one (1) year of warehouse-type work experience including heavy lifting, sorting, loading trucks and transportation of materials.
Familiarity with electronics recycling is preferred.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid driver's license issued by the State of North Carolina for the type of vehicle or equipment operated.
All offers of employment are conditional upon successful clearance of pre-employment drug testing. Employment cannot commence until the employee has been cleared.
This is a safety sensitive position and participation in the Drug and Alcohol Program is required.

Orange County contributes $100 per pay period ($2600.00 annually) for supplemental retirement and you will have the option to select between which investment firm you would like to have these funds contributed to.
