Director of Transportation (North West Hendricks Schools)
Job Summary
North West Hendricks School Corporation is seeking a highly organized, safety-focused, and team-oriented individual to serve as Director of Transportation. This leadership role is responsible for overseeing all aspects of student transportation, including personnel management, bus safety, route efficiency, compliance with state and federal laws, and effective communication with school leaders, staff, and families.
Essential Responsibilities
Submits recommendations for development of, and compliance with transportation policies, procedures, and programs Oversee daily transportation operations, including bus routing, scheduling, and driver assignments. Supervise, support, and evaluate all transportation personnel including drivers, dispatchers and mechanics. Ensure compliance with Indiana Department of Education, Department of Transportation, and FMCSA regulations. Develop, manage, and monitor the transportation budget and inventory. Collaborate with building administrators to meet student transportation needs, including regular routes, field trips, and extracurricular events. Coordinate and ensure ongoing training for all drivers, including safety, emergency procedures, and CDL compliance. Maintain accurate records for inspections, maintenance, and driver qualifications. Investigate and resolve concerns or incidents involving transportation services. Ensure vehicles are inspected, maintained, and repaired in a timely and efficient manner. Communicate effectively with parents, staff, and community members regarding transportation policies and concerns. Monitors weather and road conditions and aids in decision to delay/cancel school. Maintains confidentiality in all matters. Perform all other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Superintendent or his/her designee.
Preferred Qualifications
High school diploma or GED required; Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree preferred Minimum of three years of experience in school transportation or fleet management Valid CDL (Class B with Passenger and School Bus endorsements) or ability to obtain within six months Possess Indiana State School Bus Committee Standard Certificate Strong knowledge of Indiana school transportation regulations Effective leadership, organizational, and communication skills Proficiency with routing software, scheduling systems, Microsoft Office and Google Suite Ability to respond to transportation emergencies outside of regular work hours
