Washington Street, Phoenix, AZ 85007 Air Quality Division Salary Levels: Level 1: $60K-$65K Level 2: $65K-$75K Level 3: $80K-$85K Grade: 24, 25, 26 Job Summary: This Environmental Engineer will support the ADEQ’s Air Quality Team. This position will be responsible for drafting air quality permits, including drafting conditions that are enforceable and assure compliance with state and federal air pollution laws and regulations. Review and processing of detailed technical reports received from the regulated community. This position may be available for remote work within Arizona (1 day per week in the office/hoteling). Job Duties: Review and evaluate environmental permit applications, reports, facility designs, plans, and cost estimates. Develop permits, action plans, and recommendations based on the review and evaluation of applicable environmental regulations. Participate in site visits, data collection, inspections, and investigations regarding environmental topics. Review technical/program documents and applications. Perform environmental calculations based on provided methodologies. Provide technical assistance to the regulated community, staff, and the public pertaining to environmental impact and regulation. Assist in preparing environmental guidance documents. Minimum Qualifications: Knowledge of State and Federal environmental regulations pertaining to air quality. Understanding of environmental or chemical engineering principles and practices. Mathematical computation of emission estimates through the use of Excel. Advanced skills in Microsoft Excel and Word. Excellent interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills. Problem-solving skills and attention to detail. Selective Preference(s): Bachelor’s degree in environmental or chemical engineering. 0-1 year experience for Level 1. 2 years’ experience for Level 2 (Master’s or Doctorate degree may substitute for 2 years of experience). 5 years’ experience for Level 3 (Master’s degree can substitute for 2 years of experience, Doctorate can substitute for 4 years of experience). Engineer in Training/Fundamentals in Engineering certification required for Level 3 through the Arizona Board of Technical Registration or equivalent organization in reciprocal jurisdiction. Driver’s license – Possession of and the ability to retain a current, valid state-issued driver’s license is required.
