24, 25, 26 Job Summary: The Environmental Engineer Permit Modeler is responsible for reviewing and performing air dispersion modeling analyses for stationary source permitting, along with reviewing and processing detailed technical reports received from the regulated community. This position may be available for remote work within Arizona (2-3 days per week in the office/hoteling). Job Duties: Review air quality modeling for PSD, Title V, and minor source permits. Review emission calculations for permit modeling. Collaborate with permit writers to develop model-driven permitting conditions. Develop and update air quality modeling guidelines for Arizona air quality permits. Develop and update pre-processed meteorological database for Arizona air quality permits. Perform air dispersion modeling supporting Arizona General Permit Program. Provide technical assistance to the regulated community, staff, and the public pertaining to permit modeling. Review federal agencies’ modeling guidelines. Knowledge and Skills Required: Knowledge of atmospheric science and meteorological theory. Understanding of State and Federal environmental regulations pertaining to air quality. Knowledge of environmental or chemical engineering principles and practices. Scientific computer programming skills (FORTRAN, Python, R). Advanced skills in mathematical modeling and quantitative analysis. Excellent interpersonal, written and oral communication skills. Problem-solving skills and attention to detail. Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in environmental engineering, chemical engineering, atmospheric chemistry/science, meteorology, environmental science, or a closely related field. Level 1 - 0-2 years experience Level 2 - 2 years’ experience, including 1 year’s experience running air dispersion models (Master’s or Doctorate degree may substitute for 2 years of experience) Level 3 - 5 years’ experience, including 3 years’ experience running air dispersion models (Master’s can substitute for 2 years, Doctorate for 4 years) Pre-Employment Requirements: If this position requires driving or the use of a vehicle as an essential function of the job, then the following requirements apply: Driver’s License Requirements.
