THE JF&CS MEMORY CAFE

is a monthly social and creative arts gathering for individuals living with cognitive changes or dementia, and the people who care about them. Dementia can be isolating. The Memory Cafe is a time to relax, have fun, and focus on abilities rather than disabilities. VOLUNTEERS are an essential part of the JF&CS Memory Cafe. They assist with registration and other tasks. Most important, volunteers are like hosts at a party, welcoming participants and helping them to feel at home. THE COMMITMENT

is to complete the registration process, read the communication tip sheet, and then volunteer once a month for a minimum of one year. The JF&CS Memory Cafe usually meets on the first Friday morning of the month. Volunteers arrive at 9:00 a.m. to help set up, and are done by about 12:30 p.m. We meet at JF&CS headquarters, 1430 Main Street in Waltham. Volunteers have told us: “I’ve learned that when you’ve met one person with dementia, you’ve met one person with dementia! Each person’s condition manifests itself differently.” “I’ve discovered that I love working with older adults, and hearing stories about very different times, before I was born.” “It’s a joy!” QUESTIONS? Please contact JF&CS Memory Café lead Beth Soltzberg at bsoltzberg@jfcsboston.org or 781-693-5628. Watch this one-minute video to see memory cafés in action. Thank you very much for volunteering!
