Materials Associates (MAs) play an important role in OSU's sustainability goals. You will pick-up and deliver items, organize materials, provide customer service and more. The role also offers opportunities for advancement.WHAT'S THE POSITION?•This posting will be used to fill up to 10 part-time MA positions for the department of Materials Management (Campus Recycling, Surplus Property and Shipping & Mailing).•Join a team of students and professional staff that supports OSU's sustainability mission by collecting, transporting, and organizing a wide range of materials for reuse, recycle and safe disposal, we also assist in the collection & distribution of campus mail.•In addition to recycling, surplus and mail collection, we are also seeking students with experience and skills with computer hardware, online sales, social media, shipping /receiving and minor vehicle/equipment repair.WHEN WOULD I WORK?•Anticipated appointment begin dates are 3-5 people starting September 2nd through 8th. Second wave is 3-5 people starting September 9th through 15th. Third wave is 3-5 people starting 16th through 29th.•There is no specific anticipated appointment end date, as those hired are encouraged to continue their employment through multiple years while they are enrolled at OSU.•Maximum of 24 hours per week during school term; up to 40 hours during summer and breaks.•Class schedules and school workload are considered when developing weekly work schedules.•95% of our work is Mon-Fri 8-5•We have occasional weekend shifts for special projects•We have mail route shifts that start at 6:45am.WHAT'S THE PAY?•See the hourly rate range above. In this position, students learn and build vital career-readiness skills in the primary areas below: Communication, Critical Thinking, Teamwork, Professionalism, and Equity & Inclusion.Position Duties 60% CAMPUS MATERIALS MANAGEMENT SUPPORT:•Picking up and delivering items depending on customer requests and materials flow.•Materials range from recyclables, compost, office furniture, lab equipment, campus mail, to other special items.•The use of university-owned vehicles will support the transportation of a wide variety of materials across campus. Driving and safety training is provided by a Materials Management Lead Staff.•Materials Management staff are expected to observe and actively listen to OSU community members with diverse backgrounds who have questions or comments about their experiences with OSU's materials services.35% ON-SITE SUPPORT:•Receiving and organizing surplus items for sale, recycle or disposal of items.•Organizing recyclable materials in preparation for shipping to vendors.•Receiving, testing, and refurbishing IT inventory.•Preparing site for public and staff sales.•Providing customer assistance, cashiering, and gate monitoring.•Posting for-sale items online, including preparing items for shipping.•Cleaning and preparing recycling bins and carts.•Sorting recyclable materials.5% Other duties as assigned by Materials Management StaffMinimum Qualifications Full Employment Eligibility Requirements can be found here: https://hr.oregonstate.edu/student-employment-manual/500-employment-eligibility-requirementsMust be academically enrolled in a high school, community college, or university and pursuing a program or course of studyMust meet Academic Standing Requirements; students on academic suspension are not eligible for employmentMust meet the applicable minimal enrollment standardHigh School student: Regularly enrolled in a high school or participating in a home-schooling programUndergraduate and post-baccalaureate student: 6 credit hours per termUndergraduate international student: 12 credit hours per term*Graduate student officially admitted to Graduate School: 5 credit hours per termGraduate international student officially admitted to Graduate School: 9 credit hours per term**International students may be allowed to carry fewer hours than specified above and still be considered "full-time" by the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS).
