About the Role As a Histologist, you'll be an integral part of the surgical pathology team, performing complex histologic procedures to support accurate, high-quality diagnosis and research. You'll be responsible for preparing and processing tissue specimens using a full range of histologic methods, including embedding, microtomy, special staining, and immunohistochemistry. Working under the supervision of licensed laboratory professionals, you'll help ensure timely turnaround of slides while maintaining high quality standards, safety, and compliance with regulatory guidelines. Key Responsibilities Perform embedding, sectioning, staining (routine and special), coverslipping, and labeling of tissue specimens Operate and maintain histology equipment such as microtomes, tissue processors, and stainers Conduct immunohistochemical (IHC) staining and troubleshoot staining variability Assist in gross room functions (as permitted by qualification) and specimen tracking Maintain documentation in accordance with CAP, CLIA, and other regulatory bodies Participate in quality assurance and quality control processes to maintain lab accreditation standards Follow laboratory protocols and safety procedures while ensuring excellent slide quality and turnaround times Assist in the training of new staff or students when needed Why Join Apply Be part of an academic health system known for innovation and excellence in care Work in a CAP-accredited, state-of-the-art histology lab Access to cutting-edge technology, continued learning, and cross-disciplinary collaboration Opportunities for advancement and certification support in a dynamic clinical setting Live and work in a scenic area about an hour north of Orlando, with access to both natural beauty and vibrant city life Job Requirements What You Bring Associate's degree required; Bachelor's degree preferred HT (ASCP) or HTL (ASCP) certification required Florida State license as a Histotechnologist required Minimum of 2 years of experience in a clinical histology laboratory preferred Strong proficiency in embedding, microtomy (including small biopsies), H&E staining, and special stains Familiarity with laboratory information systems (LIS) and digital pathology platforms is a plus Attention to detail and ability to follow protocols in a regulated environment Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team-oriented culture
