Position Summary:
The GM / President is responsible for the overall strategic leadership, performance, and sustainable growth of the business. This role is accountable for delivering on Sales, Gross Margin, EBITDA, and Safety objectives. The GM/President will lead a cross-functional team and is responsible for driving operational excellence in estimating, proposal development, cost management, resource utilization, and ensuring accuracy and accountability throughout the bid-to-execution lifecycle including management of change.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Strategic and Financial Leadership:
- Set and execute the strategic direction of the business in alignment with corporate objectives.
- Own the annual operating plan, including Revenue, Gross Margin, EBITDA, and Cash Flow targets.
- Deliver consistent financial performance across business cycles and market conditions.
- Lead monthly business reviews and performance reporting for executive leadership or other stakeholders.
2. Sales and Commercial Growth:
- In partnership with CSSO, drive revenue growth through organic sales and strategic customer development.
- Hold commercial teams accountable for sales targets, pricing discipline, and margin contribution.
- Ensure accurate forecasting and pipeline development.
3. Operational Excellence and Margin Improvement
- Oversee day-to-day operations to ensure efficiency, quality, and timely service delivery.
- Identify and implement cost savings, productivity initiatives, and process improvements.
- Drive continuous improvement in gross margin through execution, pricing discipline, and cost control.
4. Commercial Operations & Execution
- Oversee cost estimating, proposal development, and quote accuracy for project bids.
- Drive accountability and rigor in scope control and change order management.
- Ensure alignment between estimating, operations, and finance throughout the bid-to execution process.
- Support contract negotiation to balance risk and reward.
5. Safety & Compliance
- Maintain a zero-tolerance safety culture across all teams and job sites.
- Ensure compliance with all regulatory and customer-specific safety standards.
- Track safety performance metrics utilizing ISG’s SMS (Intelex) and implement continuous improvement plans.
- Develop and mentor a high-performing leadership team with strong accountability.
- Promote a culture of transparency, ownership, and customer focus.
- Build succession plans and align talent strategy with business growth.
Key Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, Engineering, or a related field; MBA preferred.
- 10+ years of progressive leadership experience in industrial rotating equipment services, field services, distribution, or related industries.
- Demonstrated success managing a P&L of at least $10M; ideally up to or beyond $50M.
- Strong track record in commercial operations, operational excellence, and financial performance.
- Deep understanding of safety programs, labor utilization, and project cost management.
Metrics You Own:
- Achievement of or exceeding annual Revenue, EBITDA, and Gross Margin goals.
- Safety performance (e.g., TRIR reduction).
- Inventory management KPIs and working capital improvement.
- Resource utilization KPIs and productivity improvement across operations.
- Accuracy and consistency in estimating, quoting, and project execution.
