Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: RN Specialty: NICU Duration: 8 weeks Shift: 12-Hour Day Shift Hours per Shift: 12 Experience: 3 plus years of NICU experience required License: Current license to practice as a Registered Nurse in the state/district is required Certifications: STABLE, NRP, BLS required Must-Have: Must live 50 miles away Level III NICU nurses who can manage vents, oscillators, pressors, and care for micro preemies Description: Neonates are primarily admitted from labor and delivery. The NICU patient population ranges from as early as 23 weeks gestation to 4 months. NICU staff respond to neonatal emergencies, providing assessment and immediate care to newborns post-delivery who need closer observation. They attend all C-sections and high-risk deliveries. Conditions treated on the unit may include extreme prematurity, respiratory distress syndrome, sepsis, hypoglycemia, congenital anomalies, seizures, and meconium aspiration syndrome. Services provided include noninvasive nasal CPAP, mechanical ventilation, high-frequency oscillation, and nitric oxide inhalation therapy. Nurses assist in performing bedside procedures such as peripheral IV insertion, septic workups, intubations, percutaneous catheter insertions, and parenteral therapy. They also administer blood and blood products, provide bronchopulmonary hygiene, manage medication administration, monitor vital signs, and conduct parent teaching.
