Pathway Talent Partners has been retained by a well-established, privately held specialty contracting firm based in Minneapolis.
Position Summary
Our client is seeking a strategic and hands-on CFO/Controller to lead and enhance financial operations, systems, and reporting capabilities. Reporting directly to the COO, this role is a vital partner in aligning financial strategy with business performance, driving collaboration across teams, and supporting ongoing growth initiatives.
This opportunity is ideal for an experienced financial leader with a background in construction or specialty contracting-someone who thrives in a fast-paced, field-driven organization and is eager to build scalable financial infrastructure.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Leadership & Strategic Insight
  • Collaborate with the COO to translate operational data into financial strategies.
  • Develop dashboards and KPIs to support cross-functional decision-making.
  • Build and manage models for planning, risk analysis, and forecasting.
Accounting & Reporting
  • Oversee full-cycle accounting: month-end close, reconciliations, and job cost allocations.
  • Ensure GAAP compliance and deliver timely, accurate financial reports.
  • Manage systems for Work in Progress (WIP) and project profitability reporting.
Operational Finance & Job Costing
  • Partner with project managers and estimators on budgeting, tracking, and variance analysis.
  • Implement job costing tools and methodologies for greater financial transparency.
  • Analyze margin trends to identify areas for operational efficiency.
Controls, Compliance & Risk Management
  • Maintain regulatory compliance and oversee audits, bonding, and insurance requirements.
  • Strengthen internal financial controls and documentation processes.
  • Liaise with auditors, brokers, and regulatory entities.
Systems Optimization & Process Improvement
  • Evaluate and improve current systems for scalability and automation.
  • Lead or assist with system upgrades and integrations.
Team Leadership & Collaboration
  • Mentor and support a growing finance team.
  • Act as a financial partner across departments including operations, estimating, HR, and compliance.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA or MBA strongly preferred.
  • 7+ years of progressive experience, including 3+ years in a Controller-level role in construction or related industries.
  • Strong expertise in job costing and project-based financial operations.
  • Experience with platforms such as Sage 300 CRE, QuickBooks Enterprise, or Jonas.
  • Skilled in Excel or BI tools; strong leadership and cross-functional communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a deadline-driven environment.
