This position is responsible for supervising quality control staff, managing QA systems, and contributing to continuous improvement efforts.QualificationsMinimum QualificationsBachelor's degree in Food Science or a related field, or equivalent relevant experienceStrong verbal and written communication skillsDemonstrated ability to make sound decisions and solve problems efficientlyWorking knowledge of manufacturing processes and quality control techniquesPreferred QualificationsExperience in food manufacturing, particularly in quality or technical servicesPCQI (Preventive Controls Qualified Individual) and HACCP certificationPrior supervisory or team lead experience in a food production environmentKey Duties and ResponsibilitiesSupervise quality inspectors, technicians, and coordinators in daily activities, including raw material inspections, process controls, lab testing, sanitation, housekeeping, and product sampling.Coordinate product sampling and grading to ensure compliance with corporate and customer specifications.Review production records to validate that all critical manufacturing parameters are met.Monitor production to ensure optimal product yields and recommend improvements as needed.Ensure safety protocols are followed by:Conducting safety training and orientationEnforcing safe work practicesAddressing and correcting unsafe conditionsPreventing and investigating workplace hazards and incidentsExecute special assignments such as developing product specifications and managing sample requests, as directed by the QA Manager.Assist in hiring and onboarding new QA personnel.Supervise the training and development of new and existing QA staff.Liaise with USDA inspectors on product certifications and collaborate with the QA Manager to resolve any compliance failures.Contribute to the development and implementation of quality policies, inspection protocols, and regulatory compliance programs.Monitor and maintain awareness of co-pack specifications and yield factors, implementing controls when deviations are identified.Evaluate and recommend the acceptance or rejection of incoming raw materials and ingredients.Identify and report production line issues, and if necessary, halt operations until compliance is restored.Place questionable product on hold and collaborate with QA management for disposition decisions.Act as a cross-functional team member to ensure compliance with food safety, quality, legality, and regulatory programs such as GMPs, HACCP, FDA/USDA requirements, food security, and quality systems.Ensure adherence to all corporate and plant Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).Investigate customer complaints under QA Manager direction and provide feedback and corrective actions.Develop, maintain, and submit required QA reports and documentation.Support Corporate R&D and QA teams with special projects as assigned by the QA Manager or Director of Regulatory Compliance/Food Safety/Labeling.Stay current on industry trends, food safety regulations, and quality assurance practices.Perform other related duties as assigned by the QA Manager.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONSConstantly -
