Job Title: Medsurg/Onc RN Profession: Registered Nurse Specialty: Medical Surgical Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12H Nights Hours per Shift: 36 hours per week Experience: Minimum 2 years License: Required Certifications: BLS, NIHSS Must-Have: Must have experience in oncology, experience with trach and BiPAP is preferred but not required. RNs required to titrate drips. Description: This position is in a Medsurg/Onc department. The unit consists of 31 beds. Nurse to patient ratios are 1:4-5 during the day and 1:5-6 at night. The common diagnoses include adults and geriatrics with strokes, hypertension, COPD, cellulitis, CHF, A-fib non RVR, chest pain, myocardial infarction post-ICU, altered mental status/behavioral issues, and surgical overflow with no joints or cranial surgeries. Oncology staff will be core to chemotherapy administration. There is no oncology provider in-house on the current day. First-time travelers are accepted. Lasix experience is preferred for the role as RNs will be required to titrate drips. A Charge Nurse is available on each shift as a resource, usually without an assignment unless there is a staffing need. Patient care techs are present on the unit with a 1:8 ratio. RNs will only need to troubleshoot equipment like BiPAP, and trachs established with blow-by oxygen. There are monitor techs available, and RNs are not required to read and interpret their own strips, as tele packs are used. Scheduling is managed by the unit manager, with consideration for block scheduling if unit needs are met. Weekend requirements include every other weekend, and holiday work is as needed. There is no call or standby requirement. RNs will float to other MedSurg units when necessary and may float for telemetry, with telemetry RNs doing their strips.
