Overview
Role: Payroll Specialist Location: Hybrid role (3-4 days in office), based in Texas (preferably Houston) Education: College Diploma in Accounting preferred. Payroll certifications preferred Salary: $24.00-$30.00 per hour, depending on candidate skillset and experience Requirements: The ideal candidate must have strong understanding and working knowledge of accounting principles; with 1-2 years of payroll/accounting experience. The ideal candidate will possess Intermediate Excel skills, with the ability to work with pivot tables, xlookup, and advanced equations. Experience with Accounting software is preferred. Reporting to the Payroll Manager- Finance Department, the Payroll Specialist will help to manage and maintain our financial payroll data, ensuring the accuracy and ability to report it in a useful and easily digestible way. As our Payroll and Accounting Specialist, you will work cross-collaboratively with our Finance and our People Operations teams to maintain the company’s payroll information in our payroll platforms and prepare financial reports. Responsibilities
Manage, maintain, and review payroll processing systems in both the US and Canada, to ensure timely and accurate processing of payroll transactions including salaries, benefits, garnishments, taxes, and other deductions. Prepares and maintains accurate records and reports of payroll transactions. Completes weekly/ biweekly payroll cycles including cash requirements, payroll reconciliation, and wages/vacation accruals for month-end reporting. Process off-cycle exceptions as needed to receive, review and process adjustments, workers compensation and special checks. Process tracking and reporting information to satisfy state and provincial requirements. Respond to employee inquiries related to payroll Facilitates audits by providing records and documentation to auditors Assist in commissions calculation and management process Review and post expense reports using Ramp Assist with Accounts Payable tasks (posting/reviewing billing, approvals) Qualifications
College Diploma in Accounting preferred. Payroll certifications preferred 1-2 years of relevant experience; completing payroll across the United States and/or Canada is preferred Hands-on experience with accounting and payroll software (ADP/Excel) Proficiency with the Microsoft Office Suite (intermediate level proficiency with MS Excel i.e. pivot tables, xlookup) Understanding of payroll journal entries and accounting processes Capable of maintaining payroll operations by following all state and province requirements and escalating any matters requiring attention Ability to resolve payroll discrepancies by collecting and analyzing data Able to handle confidential information in a professional manner, maintaining employee files and payroll operations through strict confidentiality Attention to detail and accuracy is required Strong organizational, analytical, and time management skills are required Minimum US Base Salary
