Overview
Join to apply for the Staff Electronic Engineer, Inverter role at Tesla.
The Drive Inverter team designs the power electronics that move Tesla’s cars - quickly, efficiently, and reliably. Delivering hundreds of kilowatts of power from the battery to the motor, the drive inverter integrates high voltage power electronics, low voltage circuits, controls, functional safety, thermal management, and mechanical packaging. Electronic Design Engineers on the Drive Inverter team deliver component designs to ensure the system-level performance of the industry’s highest production volume traction inverters.
What You\'ll Do
End-to-end ownership of new inverter PCBA designs including specifications, architecture, schematic capture, PCB layout, board bring up, validation, and overseeing reliability and functional testing
Collaboration with cross functional teams (mechanical, firmware, test, reliability etc.) to see products through high volume manufacturing
Design and execute high voltage and high current validation of new inverter designs
Debug complex component interactions at the vehicle level
What You\'ll Bring
Degree in Electrical Engineering or related discipline with 5+ years of professional experience or equivalent experience
Minimum 8 years of related industry experience, with experience managing direct reports or leading a small team
Digital and analog circuit design, including high voltage circuits or power supply design
Printed circuit board design (we use Altium) and initial bring-up: debugging, soldering, wiring, mechanical assembly
Familiarity with embedded firmware, microcontrollers and their peripherals, python scripting or similar
Familiarity with lab equipment including oscilloscopes, function generators, power supplies
Power semiconductors (MOSFETs, IGBTs, electric motors, thermal design, and/or mechanical design
Automotive networking (CAN, LIN, Ethernet)
Basic control theory, including importance of sensor bandwidths, filtering
Automation of lab equipment (GPIB/SCPI/VISA)
Benefits Compensation Expected Compensation: $118,320 - $273,480/annual salary + cash and stock awards + benefits
Pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements dependent on the position offered. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment.
