We are seeking a detail-oriented
Staff Accountant
to support the financial operations of our hotel. This role plays a critical part in maintaining accurate financial records, ensuring compliance with accounting standards, and supporting monthly and year-end closing activities. The ideal candidate will have a solid understanding of hospitality accounting practices, excellent analytical skills, and the ability to collaborate cross-functionally. Key Responsibilities:
Prepare and post journal entries related to hotel revenues, expenses, and accruals. Reconcile general ledger accounts and bank statements monthly. Assist in the preparation of monthly financial statements and internal reports. Analyze revenue and expense trends, identifying variances and irregularities. Accounts Payable & Accounts Receivable
Process and verify vendor invoices for accuracy and compliance with hotel policies. Coordinate weekly payment runs to ensure timely vendor payments. Assist with guest and group billing, including folio reconciliation and dispute resolution. Maintain AR aging reports and follow up on outstanding balances. Reconciliations & Audits
Perform daily, weekly, and monthly reconciliations of cash, credit card transactions, and bank accounts. Support both internal and external audit processes by preparing required documentation. Ensure adherence to GAAP and company accounting standards. Revenue & Expense Oversight
Collaborate with the front office, sales, and food & beverage teams to ensure accurate revenue and expense reporting. Review and verify nightly audit reports for proper revenue recognition. Support budget development and forecasting processes. Compliance & Internal Controls
Ensure compliance with internal policies, accounting procedures, and regulatory requirements. Contribute to the development and enforcement of internal controls to safeguard financial data. Stay informed of updates in accounting regulations and hospitality industry standards. Required Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field. 2–4 years of accounting experience (hospitality industry preferred). Proficiency in hotel accounting software (e.g., HMS, Sage, Opera, or similar). Strong understanding of GAAP and financial reporting. Advanced Excel skills (pivot tables, VLOOKUPs, etc.). High level of accuracy, organization, and attention to detail. Preferred Qualifications:
Experience with hospitality systems (e.g., PMS, POS). Knowledge of hotel-related tax regulations (state and local). Experience in multi-property accounting (if applicable). Analytical Thinking:
Ability to interpret complex financial data and identify key insights. Communication:
Strong interpersonal and written communication skills for effective cross-department collaboration. Problem-Solving:
Proactive approach to identifying and resolving discrepancies. Time Management:
Able to prioritize multiple tasks in a dynamic hotel environment and meet strict deadlines. Work Environment & Physical Demands:
Based in an on-site office within the hotel. Occasional interaction with hotel departments (Front Office, F&B, etc.). Ability to sit and use a computer for extended periods.
