Senior Code Compliance Inspector
The City of Corona is seeking a detail-oriented, community-driven professional to join our team as a Senior Code Compliance Inspector. This position works to preserve the health, safety, and aesthetic integrity of our neighborhoods and businesses. In this leadership role, you'll: Take on complex, high-profile investigations into municipal code violations. Serve as a mentor and field lead to code compliance inspectors. Collaborate with departments, agencies, and community members to resolve issues fairly and effectively. Ensure housing, zoning, and health codes are upheld with professionalism, equity, and respect. Positions in the Code Compliance Inspector series work a rotating 4/10 schedule. A 4/10 schedule consists of a weekly work schedule of four (4) consecutive workdays of 10 consecutive hours. Weekly schedules include morning, evening, weekends, and holiday shifts. Knowledge: Principles, practices, and trends of land use, zoning, and building code enforcement. Municipal organization and functions pertaining to property maintenance, zoning, land use, and related issues. Municipal code enforcement methods, techniques, and practices, individual rights, and preservation of evidence. Education/Training/Experience: Equivalent to graduation from the twelfth (12th) grade. Three (3) years of increasingly responsible experience in the enforcement of building, zoning, land use, or other related codes. Skills & Abilities: Understand, interpret, and enforce municipal codes pertaining to property maintenance, zoning, and land use. Organize, coordinate, direct, and participate in the investigation of potential municipal code violations. Interpret, apply, explain, and ensure compliance with applicable federal, state, and local laws, rules, regulations, policies, and procedures. Participates in the selection and training of personnel; establishes work priorities and routines; plans and evaluates the performance of assigned personnel; regularly monitors performance and provides coaching for performance improvement and development, subject to management concurrence. Conducts the more difficult and/or complex inspections and enforcement assignments; issues citations for code violations; prepares and files complaints and appears as the City's representative and witness in the prosecution of violations. Licenses and Certifications: Possession of a valid California Driver's License, to be maintained throughout employment. Possession of, or successful acquisition within six (6) months of employment, a valid California Association of Code Enforcement Officers Advance Level Certificate, to be maintained throughout employment. Possession of a valid California PC832 certificate, to be maintained throughout employment. Applications will be accepted on a continuous basis until a sufficient number of qualified applications have been received. The deadline for first review of applications is Monday, August 18, 2025. The selection process will consist of a review and evaluation of all applicants' qualifications. Those applicants deemed to possess the most desirable qualifications will be invited to participate in a possible virtual HireVue and oral interview. The top scoring candidates from the oral interview will be placed on an eligibility list from which the department may hire. The eligibility list established from this recruitment may also be used to fill the current and/or additional vacancies throughout the City.
