The Housing Specialist assists in the ongoing administration and maintenance of a range of local and federal rental assistance programs. These programs promote housing stability and prevent homelessness with low-income residents and individual and families experiencing mental illness, addiction, trauma, medical conditions, and disabilities. The role involves working directly with program participants, landlords, and community partners to ensure compliance with programs regulations. SALARY RANGE: $40,060-$59,700
POSITION TYPE: ONSITE
Position Summary
The Housing Specialist assists in the ongoing administration and maintenance of a range of local and federal rental assistance programs. These programs promote housing stability and prevent homelessness with low-income residents and individual and families experiencing mental illness, addiction, trauma, medical conditions, and disabilities. The role involves working directly with program participants, landlords, and community partners to ensure compliance with programs regulations.
Key Responsibilities
Manage waitlists for assigned Housing Programs, as Review housing applications and corresponding documentation, and where applicable make eligibility determinations and/or recommendations. Review leasing packets for accuracy prior to ordering inspection of units. Coordinate initial and annual inspections. Conduct annual subsidy recertifications and rent calculations. Perform interim reexaminations and adjustments as needed. Track and follow up on the required monthly home visits of assigned Housing Programs. Update and maintain databases for assigned Housing Programs (e.g., Yardi, etc). Provide education with prospective and active participants about eligibility criteria, program expectations, and reviewing tenants’ and landlords’ rights and responsibilities. Conduct educational briefings for program applicants deemed eligible and those requesting to relocate, to explain processes and requirements. Promote housing stability by offering program participants initial assistance on tracking household income, developing a household budget, guidance on basic housekeeping, paying rent and utilities, following parameters of the lease and/or program rules, etc. Assist with database management for quality assurance. Maintain and/or audit client charts as outlined in quality assurance plan; Conduct research of client charts as needed. Compile statistical information and program reports as requested by Director and/or Manager. Prepare weekly vacancy report; Facilitate weekly vacancy meeting. Attend monthly meetings as directed by Director and/or Manager. Prepare and submit monthly invoices as assigned by Director and/or Manager. Perform general administrative and clerical duties to include but not limited to: photocopying, faxing, mailing, scanning, and filing. Maintain hard copy and electronic filing system. Support Housing Management Team in assigned project work. Other duties assigned.

Desired Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
High School Diploma or GED and equivalent years of experience in housing subsidy coordination Excellent computer skills and working knowledge of MS Office, Excel and YARDI Experience working with an ethnically, culturally and racially diverse work staff preferred; ability to work harmoniously with diverse groups of individuals required. Valid Drivers License Thorough knowledge of property management and housing programs targeting special needs populations Ability to conduct sensitive, empathetic interviews or meetings that respect the dignity and diversity of consumers Ability to maintain property management/consumers records and information in an accurate, timely and confidential manner Thorough knowledge of HIPAA, with the ability to handle confidential health information Sensitivity to all areas of a consumers home and family, including mental health, health status, income, age, physically ability, sexual orientation and history with the agency. Bi-lingual Spanish/English preferred Able to handle multiple tasks efficiently Ability to meet deadlines and exercise sound judgment Excellent oral and written communication skills, and interpersonal skills Seniority level
