Overview
We’re seeking a Principal AWS Cloud Architect to lead a high-visibility DoD workload modernization initiative. In this role, you’ll drive the transformation of legacy monolithic systems into cloud-native architectures while ensuring IL4 compliance and influencing cross-organizational change. This is a contract-to-hire opportunity, leading to potential full-time employment.

Experience of the Right Candidate
12+ years in enterprise architecture and cloud modernization
7+ years working with DoD contracts involving IL4 compliance
Expert-level AWS skills across compute, storage, networking, and managed services
Proven experience modernizing legacy lift-and-shift systems to cloud-native solutions
Hands-on Terraform expertise (Terragrunt a plus)
Familiarity with toolchains like Sonatype Nexus, Fortify, F5 BIG-IP, GitLab, Jenkins, Elasticsearch, and RHEL
Experience with security scanning, CI/CD integration, and compliance automation
Strong stakeholder management and communication skills
Responsibilities of the Right Candidate
Lead the AWS modernization strategy, roadmaps, and phased implementation plans
Architect cloud-native solutions using serverless, containers, and managed services
Apply AWS Well-Architected Framework principles for scalability, cost optimization, and security
Influence stakeholders and drive cross-organizational change management
Automate infrastructure deployments with Terraform/Terragrunt
Modernize CI/CD pipelines with security scanning and compliance validation
Mentor engineering teams on DevSecOps practices and AWS best practices
Ensure all solutions align with DoD security and compliance frameworks
Preferred Skills & Certifications
AWS Certified Solutions Architect (Professional) or AWS Security Specialty preferred
Expertise with EKS, Fargate, and microservices patterns
Experience optimizing AWS environments using FinOps principles
Familiarity with J2EE modernization and legacy application refactoring
Federal compliance experience with FedRAMP, FISMA, or similar frameworks
