This unit features 48 beds with nurse-to-patient ratios of 1:5-7 during daytime shifts and 1:6-8 at night. The unit accommodates patients with a variety of diagnoses including pneumonia, urinary tract infections, altered mental status, gastrointestinal bleeding, alcohol withdrawal, and other conditions related to falls and weakness. Key Responsibilities: - Provide high-quality nursing care to patients with a variety of medical conditions.- Administer medications and titrate drips as needed, except for cardiac drip titration.- Conduct assessments and monitor vital signs, blood glucose levels, and EKGs.- Collaborate effectively with a multidisciplinary team including respiratory therapists and patient care technicians.- Assist in the integration of patient care and education to support recovery.- Maintain accurate and timely documentation in the Cerner - Soarian charting system. Requirements: - Minimum of 1 year of Med/Surg nursing experience; first-time travelers are welcome.- Current BLS certification and active RN license.- Ability to work every other weekend and participate in holiday rotation as required.- Flexibility to float to other Medical/Surgical, Medical/Surgical Telemetry, or IMC units for lower acuity patients as needed.- Strong communication skills and a commitment to providing compassionate care. Work Environment: - Charge Nurses available on each shift; each Charge Nurse on day shifts may take a patient assignment if there are two scheduled.- Patient care techs are available with a typical ratio of 1:10-12, supporting nurses with duties such as bathing, feeding, and positioning patients.- Registered Nurses are not required to read telemetry strips, as monitoring techs are present to assist in interpretation. Orientation and Training: - One day of unit-specific orientation with an educator, followed by one day with a preceptor for hands-on training.
