Position Summary

The Staff Therapist will provide direct clinical services to students including initial assessment, short-term individual therapy, group therapy, and crisis intervention, within a generalist and student-centered model of care. They will also carry a caseload of approximately 20-25 clients per week with adjustments as needed based on clinical demand and staff capacity. The Staff Therapist will participate in case consultation, clinical documentation, and multidisciplinary team meetings.

This position is not expected to provide direct clinical supervision to trainees but may offer secondary supervision if qualifications and interest align. Staff Therapists may also contribute to the UCC's advanced doctoral practicum program by offering occasional didactic seminars or case presentations. Additional responsibilities include engaging in outreach programming for students, faculty, and staff, particularly related to student wellness and suicide prevention, and may present at annual campus events or retreats. This individual must be independently licensed (or license-eligible) as a master's-level or doctoral-level clinician in the state of Illinois by the time of hire.

This full-time, on site, position reports to the Director of Counseling and Wellness.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required Previous experience in crisis management and/or behavioral / mental health intervention activities. Knowledge of community resources Demonstrated ability to think strategically to generate and direct work groups. Excellent organizational, communication (written and verbal), interpersonal skills and attention to detail. Demonstrated ability to work with a diverse student body. Knowledge of legal and ethical issues related to patients' rights. Strong ability to use discretion and good judgment in all clinical health situations; Ability to demonstrate a commitment to service excellence by embodying Roosevelt's core values, mission, and vision in every aspect of the role working with students, faculty, staff, and visitors. A positive and professional demeanor is a must. Must consult with other counseling staff when necessary; Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite including Word, Excel, and Outlook. Years of Experience Required Three years or more of progressively responsible clinical and administrative experience in a mental health setting/environment.

Minimum Qualifications

Master's or Doctorate degree in counseling, psychology, or related field from an accredited college or university. The individual will have

three years or more of progressively responsible clinical and administrative experience in a mental health setting/environment.

Clinical licensure as a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor (LCPC), or Licensed Clinical Psychologist.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience in an urban college or university with a residential and large commuter student population. Three or more years of clinical and administrative experience in a university and/or college counseling center. Experience with Medicat. Equipment Operated

Duty and Responsibility

Staff Therapist Responsibilities:

Provides direct care of students seeking mental health services including assessment, intake, time-limited individual sessions, termination and group counseling when needed; Provides crisis intervention services for students experiencing mental health and/or alcohol/drug emergencies; complete initial intake assessment, implements appropriate interventions and makes referrals to community resources as needed; Collaborates with other campus departments for purposes of crisis situation stabilization; Serve as a resource and consultant to the campus community, parents and others as appropriate, on issues relating to student mental health issues affecting all students; Completes and maintains all clinical counseling records (intake forms, client rights, release of information, case notes, and clinical notes) per established State of Illinois protocols, FERPA guidelines and professional counseling standards. Percentage Of Time 65

Duty and Responsibility

Outreach and Training Responsibilities:

Create and coordinate the implementation of innovative outreach and informational programs/events to enhance students' academic, social, and mental health functioning ; train master's and doctoral level counseling intern/practicum students on outreach opportunities on campus; Provide ongoing in-service training and educational outreach on mental health to the university community on issues affecting all students and specific student subpopulations, as well as training for peer mentors and Resident Assistants; Maintain an active and professional relationship with surrounding community mental health providers/referral sources; Professional involvement in state and national organizations desirable: Illinois Counseling Association (ICA) or the American College of Counseling Association (ACCA), a division of the American Counseling Association; American Psychological Association (APA); Illinois Psychological Association (IPA). Participates on university committees and performs other job-related duties/projects as assigned by the Director of Counseling and Wellness. Percentage Of Time 25

Duty and Responsibility

Administrative Responsibilities:

Plan, organize and manage all daily activities of the Student Counseling Center; documents, tracks, and analyzes service delivery statistics; tracks online mental health screening submissions; Interpret, implement and monitor compliance with all local, state, and federal regulations pertaining to a university mental health delivery system; prepare annual reports and other internal/external documents; Annually reviews current counseling policies/procedures and revise if necessary per changing state and/or federal laws and assessment of student counseling services; Other duties as assigned.
