A prestigious law firm is seeking a
Senior Employment Law Attorney
to join its expanding Employment Law Department. The ideal candidate will have over 10 years of employment law experience, especially in defending school districts in employment-related matters. This role offers the opportunity to work with a dynamic team, competitive compensation, and prospects for professional growth. Location Redding, CA Duties Defend school districts in employment-related lawsuits, including wrongful termination, discrimination, harassment, and retaliation claims involving teachers, staff, and administrators. Manage disputes arising from complaints filed with agencies like the EEOC, state education departments, and labor boards. Oversee discovery, motion practice, and settlement negotiations, focusing on public sector employment regulations and education law. Legal Counsel & Guidance Advise school boards, superintendents, and HR on navigating employment laws such as Title IX, ADA, FMLA, and state education regulations. Develop strategies to mitigate risks in labor disputes, employee discipline, hiring, and contracts. Provide counsel on union relations, teacher tenure, and collective bargaining to prevent litigation and ensure compliance. Policy & Compliance Review and draft employment policies compliant with employment and education laws. Assist in drafting teacher and staff contracts, ensuring adherence to legal standards and union agreements. Ensure district practices comply with federal and state regulations affecting public school employment. Training & Development Provide legal training to district leadership, HR, and administrators on compliance and best practices. Conduct workshops on anti-discrimination, harassment prevention, teacher tenure, and union rules. Requirements Over 10 years of employment law experience, with litigation and defense focus. Experience defending school districts is mandatory. Trial experience is preferred but not required. Public entity defense experience is a plus. Strong research, analytical, and negotiation skills. Excellent communication skills. Ability to manage multiple priorities proactively. Education Bachelor’s Degree required. Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school. Certifications Active member of the California State Bar in good standing. Skills Expertise in employment, public sector, and education law. Litigation management and legal strategy development. Contract and policy drafting skills. Effective collaboration with district leadership and HR. Experience in legal training and workshops.
