Job Title: OTR Semi and Flatbed Trailer Driver
Job Description:
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Over-the-Road (OTR) Semi and Flatbed Trailer Driver to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for the safe and efficient transport of various goods across long distances, primarily utilizing flatbed trailers. This role requires a strong commitment to safety, adherence to all DOT regulations, and expertise in proper load securement techniques.
Responsibilities:
Operate Class A Commercial Motor Vehicles (CMV) with flatbed trailers in a safe and efficient manner over long distances, adhering to all federal, state, and local traffic laws and company policies.
Perform pre-trip and post-trip inspections of vehicles and trailers, documenting any defects or issues.
Load Securement:
Thoroughly inspect all cargo to ensure it is properly distributed and secured on the flatbed trailer according to Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) regulations and company standards.
Utilize appropriate securement devices such as chains, binders, straps, tarps, and edge protectors based on the type, weight, and dimensions of the cargo.
Ensure all securement devices are in good working order and applied correctly to prevent shifting, falling, or damage to the load during transit.
Re-check load securement periodically during transit, especially after the first 50 miles, and then every 3 hours or 150 miles, or at every change of duty status, whichever comes first.
Be proficient in securing oversized and irregularly shaped loads.
Safely load and unload cargo as required, sometimes assisting with rigging.
Maintain accurate electronic logs (ELDs) and complete all necessary paperwork, including bills of lading, delivery receipts, and inspection reports.
Communicate effectively with dispatch, customers, and other team members.
Manage hours of service effectively to ensure compliance and avoid fatigue.
Adhere to all safety protocols and procedures, including those related to hazardous materials if applicable.
Maintain a clean and organized truck and trailer.
Qualifications:
Valid Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with a clean driving record.
Minimum of [X years] of verifiable OTR flatbed driving experience.
Proven experience and in-depth knowledge of load securement techniques for various types of cargo, including compliance with FMCSA 393.100 to 393.136 regulations.
Ability to pass a pre-employment drug screen and DOT physical.
Strong understanding of DOT regulations, including hours of service.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to work independently and manage time effectively.
Willingness to travel extensively and be away from home for extended periods.
