Accounting Manager
Location:
Chicago, IL (Onsite – 5 days per week)
Compensation:
$115,000 – $125,000 annually, plus an annual bonus opportunity of $5,000 – $8,000 based on company and/or individual performance. In addition, this role is eligible for a 5% 401(k) profit sharing contribution.
Position Overview We are seeking an experienced
Accounting Manager
to oversee a team of three in accounts payable, cash applications, and general accounting. This role will lead daily operations, ensure compliance with policies and controls, and drive process improvements in a fast-paced professional services environment.
Key Responsibilities
Manage and supervise daily operations of payroll, accounts payable, cash receipts, expense reporting, general ledger, and banking activity
Provide staff training, mentorship, and annual performance evaluations
Oversee preparation and filing of sales/use tax, payroll taxes, W-2s, and 1099s
Maintain and troubleshoot financial software; coordinate with vendors as needed
Review staff-prepared reconciliations, financial packages, variance analyses, capital asset accounting, journal entries, and audit schedules
Ensure internal control compliance and implement process improvements
Support annual budgeting and office-level budget input
Lead and participate in special projects as assigned
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance required; CPA preferred
7+ years of progressive accounting experience; professional services experience strongly preferred
5+ years of people management experience with proven ability to lead and develop staff
Strong understanding of GAAP and internal control standards
Excellent analytical, interpersonal, and communication skills
Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment requiring cross-departmental collaboration
