Our client, a mission-driven nonprofit organization based in Washington, D.C., is seeking a skilled and strategic
Accounting Manager or Controller
to lead its financial operations. This role is ideal for a finance professional with nonprofit experience who is passionate about supporting impactful work through sound financial stewardship.
Responsibilities
Oversee all accounting functions including general ledger, accounts payable/receivable, payroll, and grant reporting.
Lead month-end and year-end close processes and prepare financial statements in accordance with GAAP.
Manage budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow planning.
Ensure compliance with nonprofit accounting standards and donor reporting requirements.
Coordinate annual audits and liaise with external auditors.
Implement and maintain internal controls and financial policies.
Supervise accounting staff and support their professional development.
Utilize ERP systems to streamline financial operations and reporting.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (CPA preferred).
Minimum of 5–8 years of accounting experience, with at least 3 years in a nonprofit or mission-driven organization.
Strong proficiency in ERP systems and Excel.
Deep understanding of GAAP and nonprofit financial reporting.
Excellent leadership, analytical, and communication skills.
Competitive salary range: $115,000 – $145,000
