As a Water Agency Operations Engineer, support Sonoma Water’s mission to responsibly manage natural resources by using transparent, data-based decision-making tools. Apply knowledge of regulations pertaining to water, wastewater (treatment and collection facilities), air pollution, stormwater, recycled water, and hazardous waste to support engineering projects. Collaborate with the Computerized Maintenance Management System, Operations and Maintenance, Finance, and Engineering Design staff to ensure coordination across departments and gather input to develop an Asset Management Program. Act as a project manager for various engineering projects, assist with permit and environmental compliance, provide budget and financial planning, and manage and design maintenance and smaller capital projects for water and wastewater facilities. Other responsibilities include: collaborating with regulatory agencies and analyzing water, wastewater, and business data; coordinating with Design and Water Resource Planning engineers and Operations and Maintenance personnel for seamless project execution; managing compliance with NPDES and Statewide Waste Discharge Requirements; and managing small construction projects with CSI specs and design drawings. Skills and Qualifications
Possession of a valid certificate of registration as a Professional Civil, Control System, Electrical, and/or Mechanical Engineer issued by the State of California Board of Registration for Professional Engineers and Land Surveyors at time of application submission. Experience in a water and wastewater regulatory environment and knowledge of water and wastewater treatment. Experience on capital projects in a public works/utility environment preferred. AutoCAD and/or GIS skills and ability to utilize engineering-related applications. Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills; ability to collaborate to complete complex reports and assignments. Ability to interact effectively with all levels of the organization and maintain a positive, collaborative approach. Strong communication and project management abilities; ability to work under deadlines and manage multiple projects. About Sonoma Water
Sonoma Water is a special district formed by the California State Legislature in 1949 and is responsible for providing a safe and reliable water supply to customers in Sonoma and Marin counties. It maintains 75 miles of flood control channels and provides sanitation services. Sonoma Water employs approximately 250 people and includes divisions such as Engineering & Resource Planning, Environmental Resources, Business Services & External Affairs, and Water/Wastewater Operations & Maintenance. The district emphasizes environmental sustainability and leadership in water use efficiency and fishery restoration programs. Employees of Sonoma Water are employees of a special district and are not subject to the Civil Service Ordinance of the County of Sonoma. What We Offer
Salary range: $79,150.00–$118,726.00 (locations may vary; see posting). Flexible work arrangements and excellent benefits; benefits may be changed without notice.
