The Sonoma County Water Agency (Sonoma Water) is looking for an experienced Extra-Help Climate Resiliency Program Manager to support their initiatives in energy and climate resiliency! For priority consideration, please apply to this Extra-Help recruitment by 8/18/25. The Climate Resiliency Program Manager - Extra-Help will support the climate resiliency team at Sonoma Water. This position will conduct research, perform analysis, and facilitate meetings to advance the phased rollout of Sonoma Water's 2021 Climate Adaptation Plan and its 2023 Climate and Energy Resiliency Policy. Additional responsibilities will include: Developing policies and plans to guide Sonoma Water's climate resiliency portfolio Reviewing work plans and proposals for natural and built infrastructure projects to align with best practices for utilizing climate datasets and methodologies for adaptive management Researching and presenting to executives the emerging issues related to catastrophic flood risk, weather trends, climate-related risks, infrastructure impacts, and compounding hazards Collecting, analyzing, and interpreting a variety of reports and spatial data Utilizing project management tools, including task planning, budgeting, and time monitoring, to effectively deliver on project goals Participating in committees and task forces within Sonoma Water, as well as through collaborations with local and regional partners Building relationships with key internal and external partners to advance Sonoma Water's climate equity strategy The ideal candidate for this position will be deeply committed to community building and will bring extensive experience in both program management and public sector planning. They will also possess many of the following: Knowledge of climate science and a practical understanding of climate adaptation strategies Academic background in fields such as climate science, geography, environmental studies, natural resources, conservation, hydrology, planning, public policy, or political science Demonstrated success in managing projects, evaluating results, meeting program objectives, and setting clear priorities and strategic initiatives Experience facilitating collaborative planning and building consensus among diverse stakeholders Strong desire to promote collaboration through the development of transparent, results-oriented strategies that enhance coordination and drive shared success Exceptional abilities in communication, program oversight, data analysis, and report preparation Extra-help employees relieve or augment permanent staff. Temporary, extra-help employees are not in the classified civil service and do not have property rights to permanently allocated positions. In addition, they do not receive most employee benefits such as long-term disability insurance coverage, accrual of vacation, participation in the County retirement program, or eligibility to take promotional examinations. Temporary, extra-help employees are limited in their employment to a maximum of one calendar year. These employees must be off of work for three months before they can be re-employed on an extra-help basis. Extra-help employees who meet the eligibility requirements may qualify for a County contribution toward medical coverage. This recruitment is being conducted to fill a Climate Program Manager temporary, extra-help position at Sonoma Water. This employment list may also be used to fill future extra-help positions as they occur during the active status of the list. The formal title of this position is Department Program Manager.
