SSA Group is looking for a talented Payroll Manager to join our team. SSA Group works with zoos, aquariums, museums, and other cultural attractions on integrating dining, retail, admissions and more. Reporting relationship: The Payroll Manager reports directly to the VP People Operations. Team Dynamic
The Payroll Manager works in the People Department, comprising of the Director of Risk & Benefits, Director of People Experience, Talent Acquisition Manager, HQ Engagement & People Support Manager, HCM System Manager and Administrative District Manager(s). Responsibilities
Implements, maintains, and reviews payroll processing systems to ensure timely and accurate processing of payroll transactions including salaries, other compensation, benefits, garnishments, taxes, and other deductions. Weekly processing for Rhode Island; Bi-Weekly processing for up to 1200 FTBE salary and hourly; 5k hourly team members dependent on season and growth (will fluctuate). Ensures accurate and timely processing of payroll updates including new hires, terminations, and changes to pay rates. Prepares and maintains accurate records and reports of payroll transactions. Maintain compliance for minimum wage law, penalty pay, sick pay, PTO, TAFW, pay equity and wage range. Communicates on Direct Deposit rejections, navigating steps as needed. Partners with Administrative District Managers on training necessary for team members in the field. Lead for PayActiv daily pay program, ensuring payroll compliance and supporting usage requests. Provides technical support, troubleshooting, and guidance to team members as necessary; with the support of the Administrative District Manager and HCM System Manager. Provides administrative support on W-4 and W-2. Executes missing field reports in current HRIS/HCM system, communicating with field on entries and due dates. Executes Labor reporting for Round Table as needed. AdHoc reporting including but not limited to: Labor, PTO/TAFW audit, PayActiv. Manages Security update import with personnel changes. DEAI and Culture
Communicates quickly and effectively with SSA team members, partners and vendors. Promotes an inclusive and belonging approach at HQ, with networking continuing in unit. Focuses on removing barriers and empowering growth and opportunity for team members at all levels. Supports unit in being an example for company guidelines with regard to Sustainability and Conservation efforts; displays knowledge of efforts in business application as well as giving adequate opportunity for teaching to unit staff as necessary. Supports SSA / Unit in driving community effort through engagement activities, and focus on opportunities of giving back. Other Responsibilities
Maintain a clean, safe and organized work environment. Uphold and demonstrate a complete understanding of company policies and procedures; with direct involvement of updating policy or direction in partnership with People Department as necessary. Perform other tasks as deemed necessary. Job Requirements
Extensive knowledge of the payroll function including preparation, balancing, internal control, and payroll taxes. Exceptional problem solving and decision making skills; organized and detail oriented. Comprehensive knowledge of business financials, analytics, planning and leadership skills. Strong interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to articulate to our team members, partners, and leaders at SSA. Proven leadership skills with an understanding of the importance of team building and development, while fostering partnerships. Comprehensive knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Office 365 suite. Demonstrates the ability to remain flexible with self-management on task, support and project execution. Ability to work varied hours/days, including nights, weekends and holidays, as needed. Most work is Monday – Friday; the People Department supports the team as necessary; payroll may occur on holidays. Previous Experience
Two to Three years working in a payroll role, with company-wide oversight required. Ceridian Dayforce experience preferred. Working knowledge of General Ledger and payroll accounting practices. Human Resources or People Management experience a plus. All education backgrounds accepted, must be 18 years old or older.
