Recruitment Number 25-0298. The current vacancies are for permanent, full-time positions with the Hawaii Paroling Authority Division, Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation. APPLICANTS WILL BE PLACED ON THE ELIGIBLE LIST FOR ALL LEVELS FOR WHICH THEY ARE QUALIFIED. Salary
Level III: $4,961 to $6,043 per month (SR-20, Step D to I) Level IV: $5,369 to 6,535 per month (SR-22, Step D to I) Position Description
Positions in the Parole Officer series perform professional work in the rehabilitation, monitoring, and control of adult inmates who have served time in prison and are to be released as parolees, and parolees who have already been released back into the community under the continued custody of the State and under conditions that permit reincarceration in the event parole requirements are violated. Responsibilities
Level III Type A
positions spend the majority of their time independently diagnosing and assessing pre-parole inmates to plan for their eventual release and make recommendations to the Parole Board on the probability of successful parole. Work includes reviewing case records, discussing services needed, conducting home visits, engaging potential employers, making presentations to the Parole Board, and related duties. Level III Type B
positions include the Type A duties and add training in more complex tasks such as day/night surveillance, parole violation investigations and reporting, participating in revocation hearings, and handling more challenging cases (e.g., sex offenders, offenders with mental health issues, high recidivism-risk offenders). Level IV
positions provide intensive casework services to support social, mental health, and economic readjustment of parolees while ensuring community protection. They handle the most complex and potentially dangerous parolees, may participate in revocation and other hearings, can train lower level officers, supervise teams, monitor service quality, and contribute to grant proposals and research. Qualifications
Legal Authorization to Work:
The State of Hawaii requires employment eligibility in the United States. Basic Education:
Bachelor's degree from an accredited four-year college with a minimum of twelve (12) semester credit hours in behavioral sciences. General Experience:
1.5 years of progressively responsible professional work involving counseling or similar activities that help individuals, families, and groups solve problems and make decisions. Must demonstrate ability to establish and maintain a client/counselor relationship and perform related duties such as interviewing, reporting, and communicating with diverse persons. Specialized Experience:
For Level IV, one additional year of professional experience related to criminal justice work involving rehabilitation and reintegration of offenders, balance between reintegration and enforcement, with related responsibilities. Substitutions Allowed:
