Are you a strategic leader with deep expertise in utilities, energy systems, and environmental compliance? Were seeking an experienced

Utilities Manager

to lead energy and utility operations for a large manufacturing mill in the Richmond, VA area. With a strong focus on operational efficiency, regulatory compliance, and sustainability, this role is pivotal in driving cost-effective, environmentally responsible utilities management.

Key Responsibilities

Lead the

mill-wide strategy

for optimizing energy usage, utilities operations, and sustainability efforts. Develop and implement plans to

reduce energy consumption , increase efficiency, and transition to renewable energy sources. Monitor and analyze energy usage trends; identify opportunities for improvement and cost savings. Ensure

compliance with environmental regulations

across all utilities systems (boiler, steam, water, waste treatment, and landfill). Oversee the

safe operation and maintenance

of powerhouse, boiler, wastewater, and landfill systems. Lead, coach, and develop a team of 20+ employees, fostering a culture of safety and continuous improvement. Negotiate energy contracts and manage vendor relationships including external contractors and energy suppliers. Create and administer training programs aligned with safety and compliance standards. Collaborate cross-functionally with operations, engineering, procurement, and environmental departments. Provide executive-level reporting on energy and utilities performance to mill leadership. Drive preventative maintenance and asset reliability strategies within the department. Contribute to capital project development, including design, installation, and commissioning of new utilities infrastructure. Qualifications & Requirements

5+ years of experience

in utilities/energy management, environmental services, or facility operations. Proven leadership managing energy consumption, cost analysis, and data-driven performance improvement. Experience with utility budgeting, contract negotiation, and capital projects. Strong working knowledge of

wastewater treatment (aerobic required; anaerobic preferred)

and steam/boiler systems. Bachelor's degree (or higher) in Engineering, Environmental Science, or related technical field. Preferred certifications: Certified Energy Manager (CEM) Certified Energy Procurement Professional (CEP) Building Operator Certification (BOC) LEED Accredited Professional (LEED AP)

Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
