Job Summary:
The role is responsible for executing and managing case files to support attorneys in the litigation process. Manage case files post pre-suit transition, through settlement or verdict. Provides outstanding client service in an environment of excellence, operating with the highest ethical standards and integrity. Partners with Pre-Suit team to transition cases efficiently, ensuring a seamless experience for clients, progressing case timely
Job Responsibilities: • Support efforts to progress client cases involving catastrophic accidents, wrongful death or other significant injuries through the litigation process, overseeing 20+ cases at once • File both federal and state court filings using PACER • Mentor and provide work direction on daily activities to Client Specialists, ensuring duties are performed accurately, meeting deadlines • Manage client interviews to gather relevant information from potential clients, ensuring most up-to-date data relating to case/litigation process, communicating with attorneys to keep them informed • Draft all complaints, pleadings, discovery requests, motions, request for copies, etc; partner with Client Specialist(s) to verify all information is drafted and submitted in a timely manner • Meet with clients to prepare discovery responses and prepare documents and respond • Gather and update medical records and bills as needed, including third party processors • Transcribe and summary client statements, depositions and other legal documents, ensuring all information in updated timely into system • Conduct legal research as needed using various techniques, tools and resources • Maintain communication with client via phone and email, keeping client informed of case status, necessary documentation and other relevant case information • Manage and calendar all court deadlines, ensuring all pertinent dates are documented • Propound and respond to all discovery needs and prepare all documents for filing with court • Create documentation and correspondence and regularly communicate with clients, experts and opposing counsel in a prompt, effective and courteous manner • Assist attorney(s) with pre-trial preparation, including drafting trial documents and preparing exhibits as appropriate; prepare witness list and obtain all experts • Ensure all cases are sufficiently prepared for trial • Prepare binders with pertinent and most up-to-date information • Maintain all CJC and HEG in-suit files • Prepare ACMP, motions and proposed orders when required • Prepare correspondence pertaining to client communications and attorneys, ensuring the most accurate and up-to-date information • Manage and oversee electronic filing of documents with the Court as needed • Prepare all reports and summaries with full itemization of medical bills and other expenses; follow-up to obtain outstanding records • Request and review police reports, death certificates, PIP ledgers, ISO reports, EMS reports, etc. • Oversee mediation scheduling process, partnering with client specialist to identify times, dates, locations, and other necessary detail • Work independently to manage and progress case load efficiently and within timing guidelines, always focusing on quality and service delivery • Engage external services as needed including private investigators; receive summary reports and review with attorney for appropriate next steps • Assist attorney with negotiations and settlement offers, executing responses to opposing counsel • Collect (as needed) updated bills and health insurance claims (post-settlement) for determining distributions
Qualifications: • Bachelor's degree or paralegal certification preferred, not required • 3-5 years paralegal or case manager experience or similar role required; minimum of 2 years personal injury experience and trial/litigation experience handling 20+ cases simultaneously • Experience with both federal and state court filings; experience using PACER • Proficiency in computer-based technologies including MSOffice (Word, Excel), Zoom video, telecommunications, database, and document management; experience with CLIO preferred • Ability to work independently managing, organizing and prioritizing tasks for assigned cases to facilitate expedient decisions and resolutions • Ability to work collaboratively within an internal team as well as outside parties including clients, opposing counsel, experts, medical providers, adjusters, etc. • Proactive task management to completion with focus on accuracy, detail-orientation and quality • Provide compassionate and empathetic service to clients, meeting or exceeding client expectations • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively
